in a gsr the vtec kicks in at like 4400rpms and the secondaries in the intake manifold open up at like 5600rpms thats the noise your hearing. no idea why its not opening up. did you change your ecu? ide reset your ecu and see if that does anything
Very strange that you're not throwing any CEL codes and Vtec isn't engaging. I dunno about you, but Vtec isn't that noticeable soudwise until 3rd or fourth gear. Check to see that you have enough oil to give the correct oil pressure to activate Vtec. You may have borderline enough oil to give enough oil pressure, but not quite enough. Also one thing you can do is run a 12v wire to your Vtec solenoid and listen for the 'click' when it engages. Do this only when the car is completely off. If that all checks out and you're still not throwing any CEL codes, I dunno.

like this?
sorry couldn't resist
I dont feel vtec crossover in my car. It's more audiable than noticable. However my car will pull consistantly hard. There is no "SUDDEN" increase in power. The VTEC system will engage if MAP, Oil pressure, and Water/Engine Temp are all correct. If you aren't getting any one of those up to par you will not have VTEC crossover.

Vtec only engages when the five or four(cant remember) factors are met.</TD></TR></TABLE>
i think it
1. oil pressure
2. engine temp
3. throttle position

Same here. Get an intake if you want the sound to become a little more pronounced.

definitely check the oil.

to the original poster- you just got the car, so you've never "felt" vtec kick in?
it's possible you just aren't feeling it.
you have cams, which cams? do you have a stock intake? have you tried taking the top of the airbox off, and driving that way? you might be able to hear the secondaries open up more clearly.
--
question- even if vtec isn't kicking in, the secondaries are going to open up regardless, no? isn't it just vacuum pressure, or is it electrical?

There was a debate here about 1st gear vtec also, I beleive MPH is a factor also, could be wrong.
edit: are you sure you got a c1 in there, did you just purchase the car?
