vss problem need help

Been done!
I changed trannies after breaking my last tranny! I shattered the diff and the VSS gear went with it! So I used the one that came with my new tranny and since then my speedommeter doesn't work!

pull out the new vss gear and check it for any damage/anything that looks funny. just something to check... blowing a transmission shouldn't adversely affect the guage cluster, but stranger things have happened...
still, check your current vss gear for any tooth wear/marks/anything out of the ordinary... might be that the vss gear isn't aligning correctly with the gear on the differential, causing it to not register any change in speed. i would think you would hear some noise if this was the case, however.

I have already done that too, however there is supposed to be a relay in the circuit path too, but I dont know where it is!

from the helms:
check for continuity on the black wire - connect positive lead from voltmeter to black wire that goes into the harness that plugs into the vss; connect negative lead from voltmeter to body ground. if there is no continuity, there's a problem with the black wire somewhere along the way.
if there IS continuity, check the black/yellow wire in the harness for voltage. to do this, connect the positive lead of your voltmeter to the black/yellow wire, and the negative lead to a body ground. turn the ignition switch ON. if you don't read voltage, there's a problem with this wire.
if you DO read voltage in the black/yellow line, test the blue/white wire for voltage: connect the positive lead of your voltmeter to the blue/white wire inside the clip that you plug into your VSS. connect the negative lead of your voltmeter to a body ground. turn the ignition switch ON. It should read about 5 V more than the black/yellow line. if it doesn't, there's a probelm with this wire.
if it does read approximately 5V more than the black/yellow wire, test the VSS. since you already replaced the VSS, we'll skip that part and move on to the gauge cluster.
to test the speedometer, put the front end of your vehicle up on jack stands. put the transmission in neutral. pull your gauge cluster out of your dashboard, disconnect the 16 point connector from the gauge assembly. turn the ignition switch ON. connect the positive lead of your voltmeter to the ORANGE wire in the connector. connect the negative lead to a body ground. have a friend hold one wheel (stop it from turning) while another slowly rotates the other. if the voltage pulses (oscillates) your speedometer is the source of the problem and needs to be replaced.
if you do not read pulsing voltage, the helms says "Repair open in the ORN and BLU/WHT wire between the VSS and the speedo-meter."
