Default VAFC question

My friend has a 95 integra gsr with i/h/ and a VAFC. He doesnt really know much about cars, and he bought it modded. (his exhaust is kinda ghetto, he claims its a type-r muffler with a carsound cat and stock piping)

Point being he is having trouble passing emissions; he is getting a reading of 2.05 when the legal limit is .65. Any suggestions?

I have an k20a2 and dont know much about VAFC's but any help is appreciated.

thanks

why would he be failing emissions? and do you think the VAFC is the reason? i did some research and we are going to try and reset the VAFC back to stock settings and if that fails then i think he has a bad o2 sensor.

Bad O2/cat should give you a CEL.

Lean out the VAFC...or check the spark plugs to see if he's running rich in the first place.

Damn NoVA emissions. I barely passed with my GSR as well...my O2 is shot.

If he bought the car modified, and doesn't know much about cars, my first instinct is, his problem, let him deal with it since he apparently didn't know what he was getting in to.

BUT, his problem could be in many things, the VAFC could be set to richen his mixture, maybe the guy put larger injectors in?, is the Cat still on the car?, could be an O2 sensor.

I don't really know what else causes a reading like that for emissions testing since I don't have to pass those myself.

Good luck with it though!

yea i looked at his VAFC manual today and told him to change the settings back to stock and to check his plugs. Then if that didnt help lighten the mixture and possibly look into a new o2 sensor.
