i have a 1998 2-door GSR, supersonic blue.
i dont know if i should get a ecu chip or convert to a OBD 1? please explain y
also type r cams or skunk or crane?people also say you need valve springs and
retaineers can i get by without it?

so far i have a CAI aem, DC 4-2-1 header, skunk2 exhaust system, nology plugs

please help me decide im a noobie

 

....its VTEC......and yes you can upgrade cams w/o upgrading valvetrain,,,,it just wouldnt be smart to go over the factory redline....dont waste ur $ on a "superchip"...just get a different ecu--preferably obd1...sorry about not going into detail.....im just walking out the door to go to work

well first off, nice car. before i get started you should really ask yourself, DO YOU REALLY WANT TO DO THIS??? Do you really wanna drain all your money into this? Then if something were to go wrong (usually does) then pour in more money???

First, you might wanna find out your goals! How much power? How fast? How long you want it to last? How much Money are you willing to spend? Maybe, if you give a little more infomation like this people are more willing to help you out...

hmm.. well suspension is a must, youll need to hookup to get anywhere. so maybe something like Ground Controls or Skunk2's Coilovers are inexpensive but still adjustable for your taste (some like slamed, please pull me over and give me a ticket before a screw up my bumpers..some like clean) GC are suppose to be little more comfortable, Sk2's are harsher...also one of the best things you can get for your suspension is a Traction Radius Arms theyll help you hookup with no wheelhop! Engine: CTR cams (CTR and ITR exhaust cams are the same. CTR and ITR2001+ cams, some say their the same some say there different..im still lost. But ITR 97~98 ARE different from 2001!) ITR Springs and Retainers..and some kind of ECU up grade (i got mine from iH8RICERZ on this forum, his custom spec worked well for me..better the the Mugen Spec that i tried)...that with what you already have should get you to 14's..plus, those headers are crap, you shouldve gotten JDM 4-1 headers but that should get you to 14's....
