well i havent posted that much on this site, but i have two questions that i would really appriecate some insite on. I used to have a civic hatch, an EF, and i recently bought a DA, 91 integra. and im not yet familar with the car itself, and its been a while out of the game for me due to a speed contest ticket.


my first question is.... i bought this DA and it is definently a step up from a hatch, even a step up from a hatch with a zc in it. the zc was not a very good, or reliable engine for me. now the car is a 91 and lets face facts, the car is not a new car anymore, it also has 163,000 miles on it. so now i notice the car has, for a lack of a better word, "moods" some days the car runs strong and other days it doesnt agree with me, and i notice. maybe not someone else. but i do. 3rd and up are pretty strong most of the time, but my 1st and 2nd have DEFFINATE changes. and im wondering if there are any modifications i can do to make the motor a little more solid, without breaking smog laws. maybe chipping the ecu or something, im not sure.

my second question is my car has recently begun making a strange noise that causes me GREAT conern. it has gotten worse within a weeks time. i dont hear it at faster speeds, but i know its still there. i only hear it within 5 to 25 mph. it sounds like there is a bird under my hood. its only about 4 seconds long and then stops for about 5 to 6 seconds, and then does it again. it doesnt matter if i have the clutch in or not, its still there. but when i stop the car it wont happen. but if its making the noise and i stop, it will continue untill it finishes the 4 to 5 seconds, then will not come on again. can anyone inlighten me on the subject.

Since you just bought the car i say a major tune up would be a good idea...If you dont already go grab some books, helms, haynes..Other maintanece stuff...

 

yea tune up is def. good idea, and we cant really diagnose that noise without a very good description, not, "it sounds like a bird"

 

a tune up will help, dump some fuel injection cleaner in the gas tank to help clean the fuel system and it should run better after that

 

full tune up and change the belts. new belts might get rid of the birds....or keep a cat under there

 

thanks guys for the advice, all the other times i have posted on here, i have gotten smart *** remarks. i appricate the help guys. if you can think of anything else i would loveee to hear your feedback. thanks. btw. does anyone know anything about the chips for your ecu that you can buy online? how are they? do they work? fun? not? smog legal? easy to install? any knowledge of them?

 

honda spent a lot of time making the ecu work right for your car. if something is wrong with your ecu i would replace it with antoher oem one. unless you are moding the car and need something else to tune the car to work with the mods.
do a tune up and then see if your car still has problems

 

DO NOT buy a "performance chip" for your car, those are retarded, if you want to tune your car get hondata or some other ems, those chips dont do anything.

found out the bird like sound was my clutch...... right before it went out. ****.
