turnin on vtec
ok, my bro has a 95 gsr, as he revs up the tach, the engine changes its sound drasticly at 6000 rpm, we were definate that that was the vtec, but i have been readin in many places that it turns aroud 4200 to 4400, yet there is no extra push at this rpm, where does the vtec really turn on at ? and if it does turn on at ~4000, what is the push at 6000??? thx for the help in advance
^^what he said. vtec is at 4400 and the secondary intake runners in the intake manifold open up at 5750. oh and if you're just revvin up in nuetral while sitting, vtec won't turn on because the wheels have to be moving.

uhhhh. not really. DOHC means "Dual Over Head Cams" One cam is your intake cam and the other is your exhaust cam. I have a 95 GSR and a 95 Accord EX vtec. Now I can't really say that the accord's vtec pulls harder than the teg. but my teg has a lot of stuff done to it. But the accord is sohc and it pulls pretty hard when vtec hits.

my moms sohc vtec civic has absolutely no pull at all. theres no obvious engagement; dohcvtec>sohcvtec, seeing as how a sohcvtec only has variable lift and timing on the intake valves.
yeah, dohcvtec pwns sohcvtec
I have a 95gsr and a 97accord ex 2.2L I4 SOHC. I don't even notice the vtec in the accord, I can't really hear it in the gsr either but the power gain is obvious if you drive one then the other. Gsr will eat that thing alive without even taking a trip to redline. Who says displacement is everything? Thats why im boring my block out to 84.5mm right?

Im with him
But there is nothing done to my 95 Accord EX I4 SOHC VTEC exept for the air box was taken off and I can "feel" and hear vtec very well. I was by no means saying it was faster than my gsr.

i have a hondata tuned LS/Vtec. The dyno is so smooth you can't seen a significant increase to say 'thats where the vtec hits' but the ever so common 'vtec sound' that everyone says is the secondary runners hits in my car at 4500, so where would u say vtec engages at?
Even when i hit this 4500 my car doesnt get any significant increase in pull, its just a strong constant pull all they way from 2k to 8k rpm it just gets louder at 4500.

That is kinda strange. I can really feel my vtec kick in on my gsr. I have had two. One was 97 stock gsr and the other a 95 modified gsr(curent). I could still "feel" vtec in my stock gsr. Now, I can really feel vtec in my curent gsr.
the vtec or what you call it for the accords is actually not for HP or torque, but fuel economy.
it think it was e-vtec or vtec-e.
i forgot, but they said something about it in my auto class. and Nissan was actually the first to build an engine with 'vtec'.

lol I don't know what you are talking about but my 1995 Honda Accord EX has "VTEC" and trust me.....its not for fuel economy. It by no means gets you better gas mileage.

My friend's '04 Civic EX has the E-VTEC. It is use for fuel economy, but he still has a VAFCII in it.
