Is this true?

What year is you teg, cause the 96 and 97 tegs had a tecnhnical service bulletin stating that their catalytic convertor and other emission components had an extended warantee up to 15 years I believe. Google TSB 98-031. Also if it is OBD2 the cat must be an OBD2 CA complaint cat with the sticker or card to prove it.

That's correct, they're not supposed to mess around with catalytic converters. They can sell you one outright, but often they wont touch one that you brought in yourself.
You'll have to drive around and find a muffler shop. Notice I said drive around - if you call they are likely so say no since you can could be anyone over the phone. Go in person and pay them cash, they'll do it for you.

Dude, he lives in CARBafornia - ya can't just remove emission stuff out there.
Are you also saying that removing the cat will make the exhaust louder? NO

Removing the cat does make the exhaust louder (on stock exhaust or on modded). Almost any type of restriction makes exhaust quieter (turbo, muffler, cat, etc), thus it only makes logical sense that a cat would make it quieter.

It may make it louder to a degree, but I an almost guarantee the human ear can't detect it. I had a Landspeed Racing cat on my car for 6 years, and it rusted badly and then broke. I then replaced it with a hollow test pipe - with no discernible difference in noise. Not the only example I know of first hand.

calis a bitch, theres alot of paperwork that goes with cats.
go to sears and get yourself a mig welder, find some old rotors to practice on, and then buy a lift so you can easily work on it.
youll propably be able to find some shady shop thatll do it for cash, make sure you take your valubles out of the car before you leave it.

Maybe because that "Landspeed Racing Cat" is a test pipe. You replaced a test pipe with another and heard no discernible difference in noise.

i may be a noob but only at this website. trust me, if u make it a "straight pipe" meaning straight from the head all the way to the tip with no interfearence. No cat and no silencer will make your car louder about 300% than its stock. Tech its illegal to do it and who ever does it for you get caught, the fine is $10,000 and the will investage that shop. I have seen it done, i know people who have straight pipes and i am a well experience with this topic. (IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME, RESEARCHLOU'S CUSTOM EXHAUST AND CALL THEM AND ASK FOR YOURSELF. THEY HAVE BEEN CAUGHT AND CAN ASK THEM ANYTHING U WANT ABOUT THIS AND THE WILL HONESTLY TELL YOU.) so please dont try to tell me if u take out a cat convrt ur car wont be louder bcuz it will deff be louder period.
