So I have a 1993 integra gs 5 speed, long story short I let a friend drive my car and he basically blew up my original transmission. So I purchased a "y1" transmission along with a corresponding new exedy 90-91 clutch kit and flywheel to go with the setup. I recently had a couple friends help install the new transmission and filled it with some ac delco synchromesh fm fluid. My issue is when I immediately push the clutch in from a stop it will grind if I don't pause before putting it in. Also I cannot downshift into second gear without revmatching and even then sometimes not. I'm wondering is it at all possible that there is a break in period or is most likely transmission just worn? I'm pretty sure someone swapped ls internals in this y1 case because it feels about like my old ls ys1.

 

Id say get a new trans, the one you bought has problems with it and is just going to get worse. There is no Break in Period on a transmission.

 

I don't really have the means to buy a new one but the guy I bought it from said he'd take care of it if I brought him it. It just sucks cause my old ys1 shifted like butter.

 

Sounds like the synchronizers might be going out. You can replace them, it's just a massive pain in the ***.

 

The guy I bought it from rebuilds them so he said he will fix whatevers wrong Its just a pain to drop the thing again since its my only car.
