Default Transmission Fail :/

Great. I fill up my tires, pour some fresh oil in and get ready to about to make a trip, this van in front was moving at granny speed so i cut into the next lane and i hear some noise and my car just doesnt go. i change gears it just keeps rolling back, there's a disconnect between the transmission and the engine.

no matter what gear i put it in i hear some grinding faster as the rpms climb and at idle i hear this not good sound with the motor sometimes it stops.

have no idea what i did to it. did i beat it too hard? :/ had to have aaa tow it home. now i really need my car to get around and with tranmission work i always have the idea in mind of paying in the 1000-2000 range which sucks major ***** cuz im a college student right now with no job :[ fail.

Does it grind when you put it into gear? Or does it go into gear at all? Do you know how to check your tranny fluid?

, That would be the clutch, [you hope], drop the transmission and find out, if your lucky all you did was trash the clutch/pressure plate.

Even if that is not the problem, the transmission needs to come out anyway.

Now before you go and do all that work to pull the transmission, make sure you did not just "pop" a drive shaft, 94

Yes, fcm is right. Make sure the axles are all the way in(seated). A lot of times all you need is a new snap ring on inner c/v splines. Hope that's all it is

I would definitely check the axle. I had that happen before after I swapped my clutch. I thought it was in all the way. I backed out of the drive way, and as soon as I tried going forward it moved an inch then just made awful grinding. Pushed it back into my drive way and saw the axle had come out.

does your speedo move? that would rule out the clutch.

Dam man, hope you can bike it to classes. Ironically, if you have an adult college near you which offers auto-tech, you can usually haul your car there and they will install the parts for free. Take care.

You can still have a speedo reading with a bad clutch. The speedo reads off the gear on the differential. You could run a transmission that has zero gears installed and still get a speedo reading if you had the differential installed.

Can't really tell what the noise is though. Could be a bad pilot bearing if the noise varies based on clutch engagement, could be some other bearing inside the transmission if it's an all the time kind of thing. Or you could have straight up stripped a gear and there's little bits of metal having a party inside your transmission.

any gear i put it in, doesnt really grind, but nothing happens. i release the brake and the car rolls back if on a hill. no power to the ground.

it grinds when i shift into park.

when i accelerate i hear like a free spinning noise like something loose and it would sound like it gets faster as i gig it throttle and climb rpm

yea, after mentioning this to a friend who also says he thinks it sounds like it could be an axle very likely from the free spinning noise and no gears grabbing i mentioned to him, mind you he hasnt seen the car tho, hes from outta state with a 4dr integra j-swap just felt like mentioning that...lol

i have an idea, i can just make a video, youtube it and post it on here. i can record the engine bay and the noise when i accelerate, that way you guys wont have to guess through what i try to explain.

the car is sitting in front of my house in the cold. i cant take it anywhere just yet, no money yet, mightve used up all my free under 100 mile tow's on my AAA plus membership plan. so right now i have some time to just look at the car, maybe record **** and try to figure out what the **** did i do to her...

i love her, she's my baby, treated me well, took me everywhere, lotta great moments, friends in the car, smokeouts, girls... u get the picture. its not just a car, its a piece of your life. when she hurts i hurt :/

anyway, let me know guys what exactly should i record where in the motor bay you wana see, inside? shifting? audio, whatever

and thanks guys for your help, concern and tips

btw. if the axle popped out the speedo will move since the final drive is still rotating.

I hope your e-brake works- pull it as far up as you can get it. Put something behind the rear tires(to keep from rolling). Put trans in neutral. Now, jack up front end(both tires). Get jack stands under both sides so car doesn't fall and smash you- seriously, be safe about it. Ok, now the axles go from transmission to the backside of wheels. Usually the short shaft pops loose(passenger side in your case). See the rubber boots on ends of axle? Accordion style bellows looking. The c/v joints are inside of those. Turn the pass side one coming out of trans by hand. If the other side coming out of trans(driver's side) does not turn at all while you're turning pass side, then pass axle has "popped" out. Its less likely for driver side to dislodge b/c its bolted to back of engine. Like I said before, the snap rings go bad on the end of c/v joint causing it to pop out. Only way to know if its bad is to pull the axle out. Let us know what you find on hand turn test

There is a "dip stick" on the pass side, back of transmission #7...

Attachment 314605

Start engine, check level, if low, add until level reached full mark on dip stick, helps a lot if you have a funnel with long skinny flexable tube...

Would low fluid level cause the car to completely lose drive all of a sudden? Sounds like something's broken.
