Hi, I tracked down the oil leak mentioned in my last post to the cam end rubber cap. I guess these are a common leak place on GS-R's. Anyway, I haven't really gotten a difinitive answer as to what the scuffing/scraping noise is when I am stopped and let the clutch out. Is it the throw out bearing, I don't really know how to describe it, almost like air being sucked through the intake, cuz that is what I thought it was, but I had a friend put the clutch in and it stopped, any ideas? TIA.

I have the same problem on my car since 12 000 miles. When I let the clutch out, a weird noise come from the tranny. As soon as I press on the pedal, the noise goes away.
I've talked to the dealer and to some trannys specialists and it seems to be some kind of bearing in the transmission. Apparently the input shaft bearing or pilot bearing. Anyway, to get it fixed, clutch and tranny must be taken out, so very expensive. As it doesn't bother me at all in my driving, I don't get it fixed. My car now has 90,000 miles and clutch is going great.

hmmm, interesting, I was too poor to get a new pressure plate/pilot bearing/clutch disc package when I put my new clutch in so yeah, it could be the pilot bearing. So does this mean I shouldn't worry about it? I got my clutch done for only $200 (hookups) from a mechanic friend, so I guess I could get him to work on it again, I just don't wanna spend money....any help would be appreciated, I am hoping that I can just leave it till next summer when I turbo it and get a whole new LS tranny...

If the noise has stopped since you put the clutch in, don't worry about it.
If it returns and your past your drivetrain warranty, either replace it, or rebuild it. Either way, it would be a good time to upgrade your gearing/diff while it's open.

No, I mean when I push the pedal down, the noise stops, but when I let the pedal up, it makes the swishing noise. I have 115,2XX miles on the car, so its not in warranty. Should I worry about it, or just wait till next summer when I drop in the LS tranny? Thanks.

It's been doing this since 7 months now past 16,000 miles on mine and it did not get worse at all....I want to wait till next year or when my clucth is done to change it...so if i were you, i would wait if you don't have the money to do it now, which is my case...
