Default TPS Question

I just got a new omni-power tps put on and I assume that is has been calibrated correctly because I took it to a reputable shop. Well the car just started doing that stutter thing again. What are other possible causes or should I just take it back to the shop and ask them to re-calibrate it.

Since you already had that shop work on it, why not take it back?

Why didn't you tell the shop to fix the stutter instead of telling them just to install a TPS? Maybe the old TPS wasn't the cause of the stutter.

If you can't diagnose a problem, don't just assume that it's the issue and have a shop throw on a part. Just have them diagnose it.

Maybe the new TPS slipped. Who knows.

Thanks for describing the stutter and telling us what type of car you have as well. Also, we appreciate the insight into your issue. You told us a lot. I can totally pinpoint your issue and tell you what you should do over the internet after the GREAT information you gave me.

First off by reading my original post one can assume that I was having a tps issue at one point in time. Also its not like the shop was like o sweet we will just throw on a new tps for you without having assessed the situation. The tps was throwing codes of low voltage. So I suppose I could of just had them calibrate it, but I figured why not go the next step and get a new tps just in case. Stutter is pretty standard but here is another way of describing it for you; the rpms stop or drop while climbing up the power band. Also, the car is a 00 gsr with like 89k on it and its all stock. The picture next to my name says it all. lol

step 1: check your own codes.
step 2: adjust your tps yourself. probe the middle wire on your tps with a voltmeter. you want around .5 at idle and no more than 5.0 at wide open throttle.
learning how to do simple things like this to remedy your car is invaluable to owning a honda.

I did run the codes myself before I brought it in. Its not throwing any at this point. The tps was 15 bucks to put on and calibrate which was cheaper than buying the things I needed to do it and besides the car was getting a new timing belt so why not.

Anyway I just got off the phone with the guy at the shop and he said it could be the ignitor in the distributer. If the problems keeps up I guess I will just buy a new distibuter.

there is a post on how to set your TPS on here. also the blox TPS comes up with ill reviews. the voltage increase was not gradual for one guy. what you can do to test yours is hook up the volt meter and slowly increase the throttle with the car off and key in the on position. the voltage should not jump up but gradually increase as you open the TB.

thanks, Ill try it out to make sure. I think its the distributor tho at this point. The guy at the shop assured me that he had calibrated it correctly. Im going to start with plugs and wires than move my way down to the distributor. Hopefully one of them things works. I got an omni-power tps btw, I heard they were good.

check the pins in the wiring harness connector. after i installed a new omnipower TB n TPS i started having these problems which i could remedy most times by just playing with the connector/wires, sometimes it would throw the code, sometimes it wouldnt do it enough at one time to throw the code. my problem(which sounds just like urs) was the signal wire pin in the connector had corroded, new pin put on, no more problems since.

I checked the tps and all is good. The car started bucking really bad and stalling and I put in my friends distributor and now it wont start. Put mine back in and it also wont start. Checked the timing belt and its good. No idea what the problem is, its going into the shop tonight. Hopefully this wont be too expensive.
