Default tps issue??

i have a 96 integra ls with a 96spec type r swap and i cant seem to get the vtec to engage. i think the tps sensor is bad would that cause it? it has the jdm computer in it and a hasport jumper harness to run to the solenoid. the solenoid is showing that its getting power is possible that it could be bad still even though its getting power? any ideas or answers will be much appreciated.

thanks
brian

First off try to write more clearly so as not to make things confusing. Capital letters are your friend. A little more detail would help as well.
The TPS should not affect VTEC. If your TPS was bad you would likely have a bouncing idle or drivability problems. You can check the resistance on it to be sure if you want, I don't know the specs but it should be easy to search.
As for the solenoid... I'm not sure if there is a difference but are you using the one that is for the Type R or the one off your stock engine?

the solenoid is the stock jdm one. from what ive been reading if the Tps isnt putting out the correct voltage the vtec wont work....

the tps has to read 4.5 at wot and .45 or .5 at closed. is the harness just an extension? Solenoids are all the same, it's either on or off, the cam profile is what makes vtec crack louder, or softer. or vtec engagement points.

Tps does affect vtec, I'm pretty sure that if your not at wot or close to it, vtec won't engage. Yes if the tps isn't putting out the correct voltage or close to it, it will not work. Go get a voltmeter and calibrate that pos.

That's really weird. I did not think they sold just the TPS. At least they didn't when I worked at Honda.

My car was throwing that same code at one point and we replaced the tps with an aftermarket one and it still had the same problems. It ended up being the entire throttle body. I replaced it with a used one off ebay and so far so good. I doubt this would have anything to do with your vtec tho.
