timing quest.
I crashed my teg and in doing so it cracked my distributor. Found another one, stabed it in and cant find how to set the timing. Do I need to jump any terminals together, or do I just hook up my timing light and set it. Also what should the timing be on a stock 98 ls motor. I read 16 deg+/- 2.
1. Get car up to normal operating temp
2. jump the service connector. should be in a green holder under the glove box.
3. loosen distributor slightly (enough to move back and forth)
4. Hook up the timing gun to #1 cylinder plug wire.
5. while running aim timing light at crank pulley (should be a piece of plastic stickin out indicating TDC on lower timing cover)
6. Move distributor back and forth to you find your timing spot. I think 16 is stock but while you there might as well bump it to 18.
7. Once set tighten everything back up. recheck timing.

I agree except for #6, I wouldn't advance it unless I had a cam to actually benefit from it.

yea now that i think about it, keep the timing stock. Im used to dealing with built motor so excuse me
yea its the same connector you pulled codes from. all you need is a paper clip. just connect the two ports together
