Default timing problem

i just finished installing my head and everything. Now, after installing my timing belt, the timing is off. I made sure the crank pully was at tdc and also made sure the cams where tdc. After everything was done, i took out the timing light and did the timing. From what i can see, i tried to adjust the distributor to the max and still am inches away from tdc when using the timing light gun. Its like a quarter inch away from the white line towards the firewall. Has this happened to anyone? when i put the gun to 0 degrees the pointer is on the red mark. how do i fix this?

You jumped a tooth. Need to go back and realign the crank and cams to tdc.

You probably didn't install the belt correctly. Did you install it over the exhaust cam first, BEFORE putting it over the intake cam? You must install it over the exhaust cam gear first to take the slack out of the long side of the belt. If you install it over the intake cam gear first, you're going to have extra slack on that long run and timing will be off, or you'll jump a tooth and timing will be even farther off.

Redo your cam gears make sure the arrow is up and the line in the middle of the cam gears is side by side.

line up the grooves and time it properly. if it's up more then 10 degrees the pistons will hit the valves, then you need a head job suprised the car is running if you don't know what your doing, don't touch it! good luck!
