Default Timing issue

Trying to get TDC on my b18b to change dizzy o-ring and timing belt. But the dizzy and TDC mark on the crank are NOT aligning.

Rotor button keeps stopping on cylinders 2&3 instead of 1&4 when I align the crank with the TDC mark.

im assuming the crank pulley is either the wrong one or installed incorrectly, but in my experience with Toyota’s at least, the crank can ONLY be installed one way.

what am I missing here?? Anyone have a suggestion?

thanks in advance!

just like a Toyota, set the crank pulley to TDC FIRST...then align the cam gears...not the other way around.

Did you set the motor to TDC before removing the crank pulley? Sounds like you didn't.

Post a pic of it TDC with the cam gear marks.

crank mark should line up with timing mark on the cover, then turn the cam gears with markings that says UP, of course point them up and line the indent marks on the side of the gears to the marks on the Timing cover behind the gears. Install belt and check your rotor on the distributor. If it’s still off then take the whole distributor off and line the rotor to plug 1.

I believe I’ve got it all set right now. Think my Harmonic balancer is jacked, explaining why none of the marks seemed to sync up right initially. I set the crank gear to the mark on the oil pump, aligned the cam gears and everything seemed to turn without obstruction, and the distributor was in correct placement as well. I set TDC using a screwdriver and the crank gear lined up perfect, then set cams. Got belt on and spun a few revolutions and seemed just fine. My crank pulley marks don’t align with timing cover. So I’m convinced either the pulley has spun in relation to the balancer, or I’ve got a crank pulley off a different model. It’s going to be a little bit before the motor goes back in the car for me to set ignition timing. But I’m planning to get my hands on a new balancer to compare my timing marks to a new one. By photos I’ve seen, if they’re actual model specific photos, the marks on a new pulley in relation to the marks one mine are in a different location when using the key way as a reference point.

For instance, if the keyway on my current pulley is at 12 o’clock, my TDC Mark is somewhere around 9 o’clock. In photos I’ve looked at to compare to, the TDC mark looks to be at 11ish o’clock, which would seem to be the relative location of the timing arrow on the timing cover when engine is at TDC, and the keyway at 12 o’clock.

Engine at TDC, I don’t have a photo of it with the pulley back on it, but my key way is at 12 o’clock when at TDC. Leading me to believe my harmonic balancer mark is off.

TDC is never at 11 o'clock. It's more like close to 1. As for the cam gears, the markings are supposed to be parallel to one another, not pointing at each other. In other words, the intake cam gear should sit higher than the exhaust.
