Default timing advance problems?

I just advanced the timing on my 97 GSR. I advanced it about 3 degrees because thats what I researched to be the safe zone. I have heard stories of guys getting pre-detination in the summer when it gets really, really hot as a result of the timing advance. Have any of you guys that did the timing advance had these problems? Let me know so if these problems actually occur I can switch it back. Thanks

All VTEC engines have a knock sensor. I wouldn't go past 18 deg. BTDC unless you run something higher than 93 octane gas. 16 BTDC is the stock setting.
