i think the mesh is there to maximize the surface area for the flowing exhaust gas to make contact with. the mesh is made of a material that when contacted with the exhaust gas, it will "catalyze" the exhaust gas as noted in this equation:
2NO =&gt; N2 + O2 or 2NO2 =&gt; N2 + 2O2
2CO + O2 =&gt; 2CO2
CO2, N2, and O2 is all naturally in the air (products of living organisms and used by them too, other than N2. however, i think cyanobacteria fixes N2 from atmosphere into a useable form in soil that is used by plants to make biomass with CO2)

the mesh is made of platinum i believe and some ceramic compound. they need to be heated up because when temperature rises, reactions happens faster. and when you have gas just flowing through at such a high speed, u need really fast reactions to in order for a catalytic converter to be efficient.

so therefore, i don't think the mesh was designed to burn unburnt fuel. it might just be an added bonus that it happens to burn it since it is pretty hot when the car is warmed up if this is true at all.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Exactly... however then why are you challenging my statement DA_Entegra... that proves you dont know what your talking about.

Nice work tekstyle! You have more patience than me to write up a detailed description

Just an update on my situation. It has now been 750 miles since my oil change and i am down over a full quart of oil. I am so stressed out over this car right now. I took all the precautions up front and had the car looked over by a shop and compression tested, all was supposed to be well and this is what i get. I broke myself financially to get the damn piece of **** to.

What do you guys think would cause the car to burn this much oil? could it be anything other then the rings? It puffs a little bit of blue most noticeably when coming from a stop.

Yes in deedie...

But you need to specify when it smokes. If it smokes only under acceleration then its gonna be in the head- such as your valve guides- this is because at a stop the oil drips down through the leaky guides and on top of the valves... then when you accelerate it burns it all at once creating a clowd of blue smoke.

If it smokes all the time you may have bad rings... however in order to test this a leakdown test needs to be done not so much a compression test. A shop should know this stuff... its pretty sad the stuff that i have learned from my tech school isnt even done in most lame *** shops.

A leakdown test will show if the cylinder is holding pressure or if its leaking elsewhere... a trick is to perform the test and listen where its leaking...
1.) if its out the exhaust you have an exhaust valve issue
2.) if its out of the intake the intake valve is the problem
3.) if its out of the radiator cap you have a coolant passage issue

I wouldnt pay a shop to do stuff that you could do yourself if you just splurge and buy a leakdown kit.

Cool, well hopefully in the next couple of days i will find out what the problem is. When i had a buddy follow me he said he could see only a little bit of blue smoke coming out under heavy acceleration which i couldnt see from inside the car. Only time i am after seeing it let out a big puff of smoke is when coming from a stop, and it doesnt do this all the time just every once in a while. I cant believe how bad my luck is with everything, and it just keeps getting worse.

A leakdown test should find your problem... do that and then you'll kinda have an idea of where to go next.
