Default test pipe question

where does the o2 sensor go when you put a test pipe on. if my memory serves me right there is an o2 sensor in the cat...but i could be mistaken. if there is what do you do with it and wouldn't a test piep make you throw a check engine code? if theres no o2 sensor feel free to flame me to the ground

test pipe replaces the cat and o2 sensors are not on the cat.

you can get you ecu chipped to not look for it, or they make a little o2 sensor simulator thingy to make the ecu think that its still there so you wont throw a code. or you can just put it in the collector like ^^^. but youll have to tap out a new hole for it.

can't you just wrap some foil around it and zip tie it or something?

wrong...obdI has 1 o2 sensor in the exhaust manifold, odbII has two o2 sensors, 1 in the exhaust manifold and 1 in the cat (i think thats how it goes). so depending on the year of your car you may or may not have 2 o2 sensors. you can get an o2 sensor welded into your test pipe but its still going to throw a CEL, otherwise you can get that o2 simulator thing.

xteg01 is correct. there is no real point to having that O2 sensor hole on a test pipe other than to have your O2 sensor not dangling there. you will still get a CEL.

As someone stated before:

OBD1 = 1 o2 in the exhaust manifold/header
OBD2 = 2 o2, one in the manifold, one in the cat

First of all, why are you asking about a test pipe? If you are track only then knock your self out, but if you are street then why do this irresponsible mod? You increase you chance of getting lung disease not to mention the poor bastards that get stuck behind you. All the while you are living the stereotype of a "ricer". You will not pass emissions, you WILL loose some low end, and the exhaust will sound like ***. Why 1/2 *** it? You can just buy a 200 or 300 cell high flow cat for less than $200 with the proper o2 bung.

hrmm, wierd...my o2 sensor on my 94 gsr has always plugged into my cat, instead of my exhaust manifold (Running DC 4-2-1) . Also, on my comptech test pipe, there's 2 spots for 2 o2 sensors. I have an o2 bung plug to plug the one, and plug in my o2 sensor in the other......

As for gas milage, if your car is throwing a cel/s, most likely your ecu will go into limp mode and run like dookey....thus, not good gas mileage.

ive had a CEL for about a year because of my gutted cat and still get 300-350mi per a 11.5-12 gallon fill up
