What year is your car? I know that the newer models have a crank sensor near the oil pump area. Maybe the sensor or the wires to the sensor is broken.

if all the sensors in the dizzy are good, then its between the dizzy and the ecu(wire problem) or its the ecu.
unplug the dizzy, and unplug the ecu. using an ohm meter, put one leed on one sensor pin whare you disconected it at the dizzy, and the other at the pin on the conector for the ecu. use a wire diagram, and a pic chart to determin the right pins.
note the resistance reading, and move the wire around a little bit in different spots to se if the reading changes. do this for bolth wires for the sensor.
if this wiggle test dosent show anything, do this-
with the dizzy unpluged, using an ohm meter, put one leed on one pin going into the dizzy to that sensor, and put the other leed on the other wire for that sensor. note the resistance. it should be around 350ohms. then, keeping you leeds on the same sensor wires, using the ac volts function of your multimeter, have someone turn over the engin. you should read.. i think about 2 volts ac.
these are standerd tests to perform when you get these codes. this is the proper way to trouble shoot this problem.BUT..
this write up is not a substitute for the instructions in a manual. if you dont understand it the way i have explained it,do not attempt these tests. i dont want to be responsible for injury to yourself, or your car. get your hands on the manual if you need more info, or pm me, and il try to explain it beter.

Ok I brought this thread up because I did a search for a CEL 8 that got, and this is what I found.

Does the cel code 8 mean change the distributor?
