Tansmission Issues. HELP!
I have a 1994 LS 5spd. When I have the clutch out reguradless if I am in gear or in neutral the transmission makes a high pitched squealing noise like metal grinding. As soon as I put any kind of pressure on the clutch petal it stops. This has been going on for about 6 months. Lately sometimes when the car is in gear and I press the clutch down to change gears the clutch pushes against me for a split second. After doing some research I came to the conclusion that it was the throwout bearing. I called a shop to fix it and the guy asked the symptoms and he said it is not my throwout bearing but probably something major wrong with the tranny. That scared the poo poo out of me. So I wanted to ask all of you what you think the problem is. Thanks for all the help.
some ASE tech's can screw you. i'd say get it diagnosed, by an ASE tech, and that's all. if you can, look around, or ask people for a good named hop that can help you out on your situation. that's what i always do, if you can seem to fix it yourself, get someone trustworthy. and about your tranny? is the noise coming from the engine itself, or is it coming from the tranny( hard vibrations/ squealing?)?
is sounds like the throw out bearing to be.............
you should just replace the entire clutch assembly anyway.....clutchcityonline.com is selling exedy organic clutches complete for under 300 bucks shipped.......you cant beat that price!!

midnitekreeper: It is definetly coming from the tranny. I am going to take it by a couple of mechanic friends of mine to see what they think. I hate dealing wth shops/people that I dont know. Who knows if they are just trying to screw you.
non-VTEC: If it turns out to be the throwout bearing I was just going to replace the whole clutch assembly. I would love to get a more performance oriented clutch but I wasnt planning on doing it myself unless I can talk one of my mechanic friends into helping me.
Thanks for the replies I really appreciate it.
