Just go to your local Autozone and buy this:

Same exact sh*t as GM syncromesh.
I think they cost around 3-5 bucks a bottle. Save a few bucks and get the same exact results

That's not the same as the Friction Modified version of GM's Synchromesh fluid. The GM FM stuff retails for about $15/qt., and I'm pretty sure it is not sold anywhere other than dealers or other suppliers that sell GM parts (i.e. it's not sold under a retail brand name). The part number on the bottles I got is #12377916.

Same sh*t bro, here: [/quote]
"A post on the message board at http://www.oilanalysis.com found Synchromesh to consist of a 5W30 non-detergent oil with a friction modifer and an EP (extreme pressure) additive. It is made under contract for General Motors by Pennzoil (APC 3378) or by Texaco (Code 1874 MTX Fluid)." [unquote]
Basically Penzoil makes the GM sh*t for them.

I think they both have a friction modifier (regular SM and SM FM), just the FM stuff is different somehow. You don't see two different types of fluid from Pennzoil, only the stuff labled as just "Synchromesh"

Your just paying for the GM name brand, but like the quote say's:
Penzoil makes GM's sh*t for them. You can buy what you want tho, I wouldn't waste my money.

No wasting money here, I got 3 quarts of GM Synchromesh Friction Modified for $20 from my friend who works at a dealer.
Now for a quote from the Pennzoil website:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Suitable for use in GM manual transaxles and transmissions requiring GM Part No. 12345349 or 12345577</TD></TR></TABLE>
Those part numbers refer to the regular GM Synchromesh fluid:

Actually that second part number doesn't even show up on gmpartsdirect.com.
The stuff I have is part# 12377916, different than Pennzoil's Synchromesh, and comes in a rectangular bottle, like most quart-size oil bottles.
*edit* some good info here about Synchromesh fluid vs. others like Redline MTL, etc. http://www.svtperformance.com/...24048

^^ Well, from my experience... I used Penzoil Synchromesh before and it reacts exactly the same as people who've used GM Synchromesh FM described. And, since it is stated that the Penzoil Syn. contains FM as well, this should be a clear sign that it is not equavilant to regular GM Synchromesh, but rather equal to GM Synchromesh w/ FM.
I'm sure they are using the part numbers of the non-FM fluids only to prove that their Penzoil FM fluid is much better, improvement wise.

bringing this thread back from death.
I just bought 4 Pennzoil synchromesh manual transmission fluid from AutoZone, they cost only 4 dollars something. Here im adding a picture of the back of the bottle, you guys read what it says, this product is not exactly the same as the GM, if you read carefully it says that it is specially formulated, not the same!
Ive read that this product is actually the one that contains FM not the regulator one.
here goes the picture:

I am truely sorry for bumping this from the dead, but I have a question.
After all the debate, would you guy consider the PENNZOIL SYNCHROMESH to be the EXACT same product as GM SYNCHROMEHS FRICTION MODIFIED?!

there are TWO different versions of GM synchromesh. BOTH have a some form of friction modifier, but they are not the same.
Penzoil's product is the same as the regular GM synchromesh. if you reference the part numbers, Penzoils even lists that it can be used for the GM product.
from pennzoil's site:
"Synchromesh fluid was developed for use in the New Venture manual transmission used by Chrysler and General Motors. Specifically, Synchromesh is formulated for transmissions that require GM Part No. 12345349 (Specification No. 9985648), GM Part No. 12345577, or Chrysler Part No. 4874464 (Specification MS-9224)"
it however is not the same part number as the specific friction modified GM syncromesh that everyone talks about. That GM part number is 12377916.
there are two different GM products. Pennzoil is one of those, but not the other. I've used the pennzoil stuff, and it doesn't feel any different than honda MTF.

I put gm syncromesh friction modified (i got it for $8 bux a quart...my shop gets a deal) because my 92 beretta has a bad grind when shifting into 3rd and 4th. IMO, after i replaced the fluid, the grind got worse. I thought since it supposedly helped people get rid of the grind in honda trannys, it could get rid of the grind in the chevy berettas tranny. But no. Waste of my money.
Just use HMTF in ur honda.
And as stated before, pennzoil **** is not the same as friction modified syncromesh. Pennzoil **** is the same as regular gm syncromesh.
