All synchros are are things inside the transmission that spin the transmission gears to the speed of the engine so the gears will mesh cleanly instead of grinding. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

how old is your car? also, if the car is/has been driven hard, the synchros may be going bad. Mine used to grind and I couldn't stand it, so now I double clutch. It does the same thing as the synchros, but it takes longer to shift between gears.
If you don't know how to double clutch, it's when you shift into neutral, let the clutch out, put it back in and shift into the gear you want. This will spool up the tranny to the speed of the engine. Again, this does the same thing as the synchros. Hope that helps.
