Default Sway bars?

I wanted a Skunk2 rear sway bar (fairly cheap, 22mm, i like skunk2's products) but all the shops I've called have informed me that they're now discontinued. So I was wondering what sway bar is comparable to it (22mm) and in the same price range ( $130-$160 ). One I know of is the type-r sway but what are some others ?

The ITR sway bar + BSQ mounting system is the best value out there. For the money, I think the ITR sway was one of the best mods that I did to my car.

Go to BSQ's site to get all the info you need:

Think about what do sway bars do?

When you go into a turn one side of the suspension compresses. When this happens the lever arm of the sway bar moves downward causing the whole swaybar to twist. This in turn causes the lever arm on the other side of the suspension to twist and it compresses the other side as well.

In short the bar takes out body roll. Which is why they are called "Sway" or "anti-roll" bars. So the stiffer the bar is, the more roll it will take out of the suspension.

People tend to stick with the ITR bar because it is cheap and when paired with a 22 or 24mm front bar (GSR or LS) it produces a good result of lift throttle oversteer. What most people don't realize, is that if you are willing to upgrade both front and rear you can balance out the oversteer the same way but have even stiffer bars to keep the car flater in heavy turns.

The ITR bar is not the only option out there, keep an open mind

Instructions I used and kit I used....best bang for the buck, and definitely a noticeable difference!

Be careful though at first, the car definitely will have different characterisitics!

1.) How does the skunk2 rear sway bar compares to the ITR rear sway bar?
2.) To run a bigger sway bar - Do I need to reinforce the chassis if I have pretty stiff springs? 400F/400R
3.) Id like to upgrade both the front and rear sway bars. How will that affect understeer/oversteer?

Thx

Having driven both on stock springs and 8k/6k, i highly recommend upgrading the spring rates....BSQ works fine with me!

I got the Beaks kit. Alot more expensive than the BSQ, but the quality is really great and it looks alot more stable than BSQ. Not sure its necessary over the BSQ but Im glad I got it just for the peace of mind. Just another option! Stay with the ITR bar, tons of people on here love it, so you know that you cant go wrong with it and you wont have any problems with it.

there's also the comptech sway/tie bar combo where you have a more robust mounting point with the tie bar. definitely more pricey, but you can probably find it used in the classified forum from time to time. i went this route rather than the ITR sway + BSQ.

also, suspension techniques has a rear 22mm bar for the teg also. you can probably find it new for a good price on groupbuycenter.com sometimes.

good luck.

if you compare two sway bars that are the same size it should have the same stiffness. unless one bar is longer
than the other. jus pick up an itr bar, only 50-60 bucks, bar alone.

As most others have said, ITR sway bar is the best bang for you buck!
But even if you upgraded your shocks and springs you should DEFINATELY get a reinforcement kit such as BSQ $20 (what i used) or Beaks ($40 i think). If you don't the bigger bar will tear out of the subframe.

I found out from Skunk2 the Skunk2 rear sway bar is NOT 22mm but 21mm. Ok but if the OEM ITR rear sway bar is 22mm then why would Skunk2 make a bar that is inferior than OEM then charge twice as much for it?

Is it perhaps stronger material?

because they did poor r&d before releasing the product or to give other options since 22mm was already available.

Keep in mind diameter is NOT the only factor in how effective the bar is. How it is mounted, the endlinks, the total mass (IE, a bar that is 22mm but LONGER will be more effective than a 22mm that is shorter), how the bar is made (there are different treatments that stiffen up the material), etc.

Ok so this brings back to my original question. How does the Skunk2 22mm rear sway bar compare to the 22mm ITR rear sway bar?
