check out Golden Eagle block gaurds, they have better cut outs, to prevent the overheating problem.

i never had one but i head a lot of bad things about them. about how they really dont help and are a waste of money and cause hot spots on the sleeves, causing the engine to over heat

I also have a b20 and wanted to get one. I found on that looks close to the STR one and is way cheaper. http://www.azracemachine.com/BlokGardDesc.htm. You can't beat $80!

They make good paper weights. or you can put them in your motor and warp your block or melt something. those little holes are what let the coolant through. If you do use one you might want to have it welded in a few spots to make it work. sleeves are the way to go..golden eagle are nice..

not all of use have an extra 1000 bucks laying around for sleeves! I did a lot of research and talked to a lot of people about boosting on stock sleeves and it is very possible. As long as you tune your motor properly and do everything else right i think you'll be fine with/without one. I bought one cause the machine shop is comfortable with using them. Remember a key to these guards is how they are installed. this isn't a really a dyi type of project. Have a machine shop install it 1/4 inch into the block; weld it in a few spots and you should be good to go.

as far as making it stronger, ya it should help. but it definitely degrades the engine and creates heat spots.. not good.
