Default Start up problems! Help please.

Hey, so this has been going on for a while now. Whenever i turn the key in the ignition to start up the car, it doesn't make any noise what so ever other than a click. I may hold it at that position for anywhere from 2 seconds to 20 seconds before it will start up. Another time, the car wouldn't turn on for a good hour. Other times it will start up instantly. The starter has already been replaced, and my cousin also helped clean the ground contacts. It will turn on fine for 2 weeks, and it will just show up again.

Does anyone know what the problem may be? Thanks in advance

check your ignition main relay they like to go for odd reasons. the main relay is located above the fusebox to the left side of the steering column

Say what?
The main relay, [PGM-FI Main Relay] has nothing to do with engine cranking or starter operation.

Also, the PGM-FI Main Relay is located to the left of the steering wheel and above the fuse box on G2s on G3s it is just to the left of fuse box and just above hood release lever.

OP, your starting problem could still be the starter or starter solenoid, even though it is a "new" starter.

I would try a bypass jump when it just "clicks" and a starter circuit test...
https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...cm+bypass+jump

I would also test the circuit with a multimeter, the problem may be low current, burnt contacts on a starter relay, [5 speed] or Automatic Gear Position Switch, [automatic] can cause low current to the starter lead, preventing starter solenoid from energizing.

It could also be the ign. switch, common on older Honda/Acura...

The bypass jump and circuit test will narrow where the problem is.

You said you and a friend cleaned the main grounds, did you clean the 12V+ connections? 94

UPDATE: I replaced my ignition switch yesterday, still having this problem. Its definitly not a problem with the starter, it cranks over fine. Sometimes the main relay will kick on and it will start up fine, other times it wont kick on at all. I had this problem last year and i believe i tred replacing the main relay and it did nothing but im going to try it again tomorrow. other than the main relay im thinking it would have to be a bad connection in the fuse block under the dash or bad connection in a wire to the main relay maybe?

I'm having the same problem on my dc2. Sometimes it starts right up but most of the time i turn the key and i just hear a clicking from under the dash to the left of the steering wheel. I have to turn the key forward and back sometimes up to 20 times before it registers and turns over.when i manually jump the starter it works everytime. i have already replaced the main relay and i know the starter is good now. What could this problem be. i know my EG had a starter relay in the spot where im hearing the clicking.

i would say do a voltage drop between the positive cable running from battery post to the starter. Shouldnt lose anymore than .5 volts through the cable. thats where i would start because pgm fi doesnt seem too fun and this test is very simple.

I 2nd this test old cables tend to build resistance from age and/or internal corrosion that with temperature differences could cause your issue
