squeaking from engine compartment
howdy, i have a '95 ls 4-door 5-speed at about 118K. many times when i let off the gas , whether in first or fifth or buck back and forth in reverse, i hear a squeaking (sounds almost like a non-distructive metal on metal) coming from the engine compartment. it sounds like the center or drivers side, but i can't really depend on that because that is the side i'm sitting on when i hear it, so ofcourse its going to sound like its coming from there. i am thinking that it is a motor mount, i just don't know which one. i want to assume that it is the one near the firewall or lower drivers side because that one is torn, but i think that one has little impact on how much the engine torques back and forth because. has anyone else had this issue and had it resolved? any other insight would be greatly appreciated before i go and buy a motor mount that won't fix it. it could also be something very random, so any experience with any symptoms like this would help.
thanks!
thanks!
no, i am almost certain that whatever is making the noise only does it when the engine twists. not at idle, not while at a constant speed, only when i take my foot off or when i go in reverse, and in both cases the engine torques the same direction.
yea true, it most likely is something like a mount then. you should have someone in the car revving the motor or doing whatever it takes to make it make the noise then listen using a long retchet extension. place it various places on the motor and then the other end to your ear you can hear much better
