Default speaker conversion

i am thinking about putting 2 6x9 speakers on the back deck and taking out the two 6.5's from the back because they rattle a lot. i am thinkning i can do this to make it sound a lot better with more bass. have any of you done this? what do you think of it and if it would work well.

I cut out holes in the hatch cover, and dropped two 6X9s in boxes in the holes i cut out. It doesn't look bad at all

I don't see how you'll get much, if any, more bass from a 6x9 than the stock 6.5, especially if you're using the stock headunit. Leve the rears stock, get some better front speakers, and if you want bass, get a sub.

well i have an alpine deck, prob the best brand you can buy with the bass engine in it. im very impressed with it. i was trying to stay away from subs as i am doing weight reduction things now and that would be counterproductive to get a big sub box in the hatch. my big quib with the stock rear speakers now is that they rattle a lot with that stupid plastic peice over it.

your problem seems to be you want what you can't have.

6.5 to 6x9 is not what I would say do. If anything get BETTER speakers and add a SMALL 4 channel amp to them. Minimal weight, better response, and maximum output. The best of both worlds.

Asking for much bass out of a 6.5 or 6x9 is gonna cause you to buy a lot of speakers man, you'll be blowing them left and right. Good luck .

Sounds like you need to take the cover off and see what is rattling. The only time I've seen the rear 6.5's rattle is when they are installed incorrectly.

the plastic trim peice is rattling against itself. not the speaker itself.

You should look for a new plastic piece then.

haha theres nothing wrong with the plastic peices. when there is a lot of bass and there is plastic on top of plastic its going to rattle. i guess i could put some foam in there or something.
