Default something is wrong with my vtec

ok this just started today. so i have a 90 integra 4door with a obd1 conversion and a gsr head. ive kinda noticed that when the vtec engages it clicks a few times real quick then it works fine. its done that since i put the head on. but then i started noticing that after i let off it makes some clicking sounds n then disengages. ive thought that was kind weird but today it was popping vtec kinda late. i have the vtec set at 4800rpm's but today it was going as high as 6000rpm's and i was clicking a bunch and sounded like it was struggling to engage. i know that if the oil is low it wont pop or or will pop out of vtec but ive never herd of this. but i checked my oil anyway and it is fine. now the clicking kinda makes me lean towards the lost motion assembly but then i was thinking that it could be the vtec solenoid shitting out n making it kick in and out. once it engages it pulls fine but its not right. i also was thinking it could be the oil pump man i hope it isn't that though. does anyone have any ideas or have had this problem

I don't get what you're saying. Clicking could be a loose valve. What motor is this?

Ok, I know you are frustrated and im not trying to be an ***, but try revising what you said so that it will make more sence. Is it actually vtec engage or secondairies opening? Does it sound like a valve or injector click, tap? Does the car bog down when engaging? The more descriptive you are the more we can help you.

Your vtec wasnt engaging tell 6000 rpm?

the way he post his story leads me to believe, he has a ls/vtec because he just says his car has a "gsr" head , i doubt hes running a gsr intake manifold.

if it's suffering to engage then the solenoid is not getting sufficient oil pressure, any cells on?

oil pump should be ur last concern, since the oil level is good i would replace vtec solenoid screen/gaskets.

also check the wiring, especially if u do not have factory wiring that should be ur first thing to check. try to run wire externally

check ur oil pan for any dents, since this may cause oil pickup suffering from reaching oil even though u have good oil level

sorry if what i wrote didn't make sense to some people. i was kinda pissed about it and rushing what i wrote cuz i needed to be somewhere. anyway its a b18a1 block with a 95 gsr head and it popped vtec fine but it clicked kinda loud before it engaged each time but it worked fine till the other day. i tuned it on crome and i set vtec at 4800rpms but now it engages sometimes as high as 6000rpms and it clicks a bunch of times and sounds like its struggling to engage but once it does it pulls hard like it always has. as for the timing i timed it with a timing light and set it 2 degrees advanced and it was fine. the valves are adjusted right i did that when i put the head on witch was like 2 months ago. my oil pan is mint no dents. the reason i was thinking it was the lost motion assembly is because one of my buddies built a poor mans type r a while ago and it worked fine but it clicked really loud when vtec engaged so he changed it out with parts from another head he had and it sounded normal. i guess it could be the solenoid but ive had them **** out before and it just stopped working all together, it didn't engage higher. ill try changing it since i have one and ill clean the screen when i have it apart. but its pretty cold out here right now and id rather not change thing for nothing i know its easy but working in the cold suck. ill try to make it up to my dads n do it in his garage but if anyone has any ideas or needs more info on it then let me know. thanks for the reply's.

oh and there is no cel and i have a obd1 jumper and i ran the wires from that jumper harness so the wires are new and they are connected. like i said it works every time but it engages late. i also only have one wire running into the engine bay for vtec cuz i disabled the knock sensor and i bypassed the pressure switch by connecting the solenoid n pressure switch wires 2gether. ive done that tones of times and its always worked fine. and i also disabled the o2 sensor heater so i didn't have to run those wires either. like i said it worked fine till the other day.

check the solenoid for cloggs, using silicone to seal a leakey one is a bad idea and i have had several people come to me because they did, to make sure its not bad just run a 12v wire to it and see if it holds on or if it goes crazy with clicking

well i changed my oil since it was about time to do so and now its been engaging like it should. it still kinda clicks loud but only once then it stays engaged till i let off. me and a friend were talking today and he was saying that most oil filters have a bypass in them so when the filter is to dirty or clogged it bypasses it and doesn't filter it. but i guess some filters when they bypass they don't make enough oil pressure n oviously vtec runs off oil pressure so i guess that makes sense. cuz once i changed it it worked like it always has. well if it acts up again ill let you guys know. thanks for the replies.
