something wrong with my HIDs
I took out the HIDs to paint the bezels in my head lights black, and I put them back in, but now it seems like the HID bulbs arent even shining towards the road when I drive, I see a line of light that stops about an arms length in front of the bumper and thats it, then theres light off to the sides of the car. I put the bulbs in with the bars facing up and taped the bulbs secure, are the bulbs supposed to be put in any other way? Any suggestions on what I should do?
not sure on the hids but on my teg there is a thing on the headlights in the engine bay that is called a level. on the level there is a bubble that you have to line up inbetween the lines, hard to explain, and you probably dont even have them. Anyways you have to aim them with mine using some sort of ****...

you taped them secure?
You need to get some bulbs that fit the mount for one thing. Stock projectors? Yikes, the bulbs are probably nowhere near matched to 9006 bulbs in terms of filament location.
All I can say is, I used to have HID bulbs that were actually made to fit in the stock projectors, and they really weren't that great.
The up/down adjustment is near the bottom of the headlight housing, in the middle. The left/right adjustment is towards the outside.

A D2 (D2S or D2R) is made to fit a housing w/ a D2 base. Just like a 9006 bulbs is made to fit a housing w/ a 9006 base. You can't interchange unless you do modification, like rebasing the D2S bulb.

patrick, I have no clue about anything regarding HIDs because I just bought the car this way, and they were taped in when I looked at them so I just taped them back lol I wasnt trying to mess with anything. But what would you suggest I do to make them actually stay in there? I think this guy took the HIDs from a maxima (or so my friends tell me) becuse the box is a beige/brown color

Your bulbs are probably in the projector too far, compared to the position of a 9006 bulb.

Is there a black stripe around the glass part of the bulb? If so then it's a D2R bulb (what the 00-03 Maximas used), which is made for a reflector type housing, not projector.
Like I said, read up here: http://faq.auto.light.tripod.com/

*edit* oh BTW the return wire on the HID bulb should point downward, ideally, but it doesn't make too much difference which way it's positioned.

No theres no stripe, the bulb just looks long and has like a ball inside... its the weirdest thing i've ever seen, but I just went outside and looked at the leveler on my headlights and the bubble is at the bottom on both, not in the middle... I dont have any damn tools here so I can't do anything about it yet
but I will later on tonight. And, to adjust the level, you turn those screws right? the ones that look a little smaller than 10mm . Maybe that is my problem? But im going to read those pages you sent now
edit* on that first page you sent me, I went to HID upgrade, but after that what exaclty am I trying to do? HID retro fit? Aftermarket? OEM retrofit?

On that first link, just look through the general FAQ section. What you are doing is an HID kit retrofit, vs. what I have, which is an OEM HID projector retrofit (changing out the entire projector for an OEM HID projector, vs. just sticking an HID bulb in the factory projector).
I don't use the level to aim my headlights, I measure the distance of the center of the headlight from the ground, and then measure the same distance, minus 2", on a wall 25 ft. away, and then aim the cutoff beam to that. If you use the level, you MUST be on exactly level ground, otherwise the slope of the ground and the car will affect the reading.
Normally you use a big phillips head screwdriver to turn the gear wheel adjustors (look in the owners' manual, it shows how), but on the 98+ headlights, the gear wheels have a hex head on them also, I think they are like 8mm or something. You can't really get anything back there other than a ratcheting gear wrench, so if you don't have one of those, go at it w/ the screwdriver.

for the bolded part, lol what?
for the bolded part, lol what?
this is jweezy225 on my friends name, what im asking is you explain what exactly you mean. So what do I do? park my car about 25 feet away from a wall and then what? I tried turning those level gears in the headlights, but I didnt see anything changing with the bubbles in the leveler, what exactly is supposed to happen? All im asking is if you could be more specific, because I think im on the right track but im not really too sure. thanks
