Smoking after VTEC?
Well I just recently swapped a 94 B18c1 w/64,xxx on it into my 91 Ls. Setup is as follows: 94 B18c1, PR3 ECU, Comptech header, skunk 2 IM, resonated test pipe. OK the problem is after I hit VTEC when I come to a stop there is a bit of smoke coming from my exhaust briefly, then it goes away. I had a friend follow me today and he said when I get on it 4800+ rpm it smokes a bit but if I drive normally nothing at all. He said that the smoke looked like it was white at first then he said it seemed blue?
I haven't yet performed a compression test. I plan to do that on Sunday. But from what I have read it could be a blown Headgasket? But my thought is it would do it all the time. I also read it could be rings, which smoke during acceleration, or valve seals which smoke during engine braking or deaccleration. I also read that a plugged PCV valve can cause you to burn oil. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Josh

just a guess but maybe its just excess oil getting into the exhaust manifold? just a guess so dont get all crazy if thas impossible cuz im just a 17 yr old kid making a guess.
I wouldn't be too worried about it. No matter what, you are gonna burn oil when you romp on it, especially with an engine with over 60,000 miles on it..

hey got the same problem... checked the compresion, and it was 180 across....but i forgot to do the test at WOT. i need to figure out whats wrong with my engine and the smoke once im in vtec
i have a b16a in my integra without about 80k on it and it does the same thing...just make sure you keep your eye on the oil and in the future check them rings out. if the motor was constantly run hard with previous owner then theres a good chance that its your rings. does the motor still run good/pull hard? if it does you should be in good shape.. old honda's like to burn oil..at least thats what ive been told a zillion times.
It seems to pull OK, not really what I was hoping for. But the previous owner only had it for 10,000 miles before he totalled the car. The owner before him didn't know what they had. Although all service records were there and all services were performed at Acura. I am hoping for the best, but if its more than a headgasket , I am putting my LS engine back in until I can rebuild the B18c1. Thanks for the input guys.

usually, but it shouldnt be blue, maybe a little black

Ok I am almost positive its a HG. I did a compression test today and with the throttle plate closed I got:
cyl 1:160
cyl 2:125
cyl 3:130
cyl 4:160
I read somewhere that if the lower cylinders are right next to each other its most usually is a headgasket. My other question what cylinder pressure should I expect to get on a stock p72 in good shape? Thanks for all your help guys...

Ok this is what I came up with on the open throttle plate test.
Cyl 1: 227
Cyl 2: 185
Cyl 3: 182
Cyl 4: 230
Much better looking than the previous numbers.

2 and 3 doesn't look so good, try putting a few drops of oil those two chambers and do another compression test, if they get better your rings might be going.
well the compression numbers paired with the fact my oil and coolant are going bye bye leeds me to belive its a HG. I am not saying there is nothing else going on. Just that the headgasket is shot. But I will keep you guys updated, and thanks for the info.
