Default SImple Question?

SOmething went wrong to my car when i went 80 on the highway. The steering wheel kept shaking and i don't know if that is normal and when i slowed down to 70 it stopped shaking. My friend suggested that it was my axles on my car but not sure if that is it. Planning to get it checked soon. I considered some possiblities such as my car having power steering. Still I don't know if that is normal?

might be worn suspension parts, or your wheels maybe out of balance

its not balance. Sintpital force forces the tires walls to expand. like when you put water in a bucket and spin it, like that but outward and not in. i hope this expains it, or at least you can understand it. Its a bad pic, but i hopeyou get it. thats what the shakin is. The shaking occurs when the tire is changing shape. if you go faster then that speed by like 2 miles over it goes away right?

your tires need to be balance
i just change my tires and got a balance done with it but between 60-70 mph my steering wheels shakes and i took it back and they rebalance them and they are ok now. I bet it is the balance of the front tires.

IMO i think it's the tires that are out of balance. When you feel it in the wheel then it's in the front, but if you only feel it in the seat then it's the rear.

first, it's Centripetal Force. second, you're a moron. yes, tires deform, but no, shaking will not result from it. want to know why? it's because the tire is ROUND. if it deforms, it deforms evenly around its axis of rotation, so no shaking would be felt.

to the person who started this thread, either 1) your tires are out of balance, which happens from time to time just because a wheel weight falls off, or 2) one or more of your front suspension's ball joints is due for replacement (don't forget to check the tie rod ends).

yup unbalanced or one tire worn out more than others. Have also had that problem when I had a chunk of mud stuck to the tire. Washed it off went up to 90 no shakes.

actually, it's centrifugal force. centripetal force is that of something being pushed towards the axis of rotation, whereas centrifugal force is something being pushed away from the axis.

anyway, most likely your tires need balancing. an alignment probably wouldn't hurt, either.

well, both centripetal and centrifugal forces are at work, and neither has anything to do with why your steering wheel shakes. i was just quickly correcting this:

he meant centripetal. i think. if he knows what that is, i think he meant it. well, you know, trying to figure out what the heck he was going through his head is hurting me, so i'm going to eat.

Why do some people just make things plain complicated? Centrifugal and centripetal forces have nothing to do with it. It's not alignment. And if it's only at a certian speed, its not balljoints.

Its wheel balance. Simple answer for your simple question.

Sorry...just had to get theat out of my system!!
