Does it happen all the time? If its just once in a while, throw the car in second, then go directly to reverse. Sounds dumb, but works for me everytime. Hope that helps.

Actually this tecnique works quite well on quite a few different cars. My old EG required this, as did my Porsche.

Re: shift problem (95LSB18)
just throw it into any gear, first, second etc. and back to reverse. happens all the time in my 93 teg, my old 95 civic and even my 94 teg. its very normal. of course after doing that and it still doesnt go into reverse, then u have a problem

Re: shift problem (raceinspired)
yea normally in order for me to get into reverse without grinding, i put it in 4th for a sec, then to reverse..give that a try and see if you still have the problem

Re: shift problem (2Gen91Teg)
Yeah, it's like the 5th to reverse lockout is on. I usually throw it second then back to get it to go. I have also observed that I can simply twist my shift **** a little in either direction and it will slide in...

Re: shift problem (97 GSR)
Ya on my 99 If i have the ebrake on and try to put in reverse when i first go to leave it won't go in. Once i take the ebrake off and slightly roll or shift wheels in either direction it goes right in. But like everyone else said I had a 91 prelude that would almost always make me put it in first then back in to reverse.

Re: shift problem (Jaydeep)
if you are talking about it not going into reverse as soon as you turn on the car and still have the clutch in from starting, then yes it is normal for this to happen. your clutch is not fully engaged. just let it sit for a minute, be patient and then put it into reverse.

or do it the quick way, after starting it, put it in neutral, let the clutch out, push it back in then put it in reverse. happens in my 91 hatchback and my moms 98 nissan maxima, its just normal
