shift light , with an Auto gearbox ?!?!?
I hear people all the time dishing cars with auto gearbox.
well i bought my teggy with automatic gearbox and im happy with it!
few days ago i got a magazine about modded cars (MAX power hehe) and I saw a lot of cars with automatic gearbox and they had that clock with shift light ?!?!
what am I missing here? what good the shift light will do since you cant change the gear manually ?

For 99.999% of the automatics out there with shift lights/tach's, it's useless and a waste of money. That's your answer.
In certain rare racing applications, you might see it.

Shamoo answered that one pretty throughly. They are just clogging up some space in your view out of the windshield. I guess people think they are so cool, they have to have one no matter what.
well if you want to squeeze and extra tenth of a second or so on your auto at the track...you CAN shift it by hand, like how you have D4, D3, 2, 1...
1 is first gear ONLY
2 is second gear ONLY
3 is gears 1-3
4 is gears 1-4
if you shift manually 1, then 2, then D3 and D4, you can squeeze an extra like 200 RPMS out of first gear...i've never noticed a difference going from 2nd to 3rd...
but if you wait til the very last second, and knock it forward at the right time, it'll pull a little harder in the bottom of second gear...
but its suck a bitch to get the right spot, you'll either do it too early, and its a bad effect, or you'll do it a tiny bit to late, and bounce of the revlimiter once, and then its bad too...or you'll get it right...and chirp in second..[i did that once

I probably wouldnt reccomend doing this though unless u have a built auto trans(hehe sorry had to laugh at my self for saying that) that that manually shifting in an automatic is gonna screw up the tranny(a very costly repair) let the trany do what it was designed for ...to be automatic....but hey its ur money

actually no...i thought the same thing, but if you check out the owners manual for an integra, it tells you that you are allowed to do that...like its still an automatic, so it wont let you **** up too much, like you cant slam it in first at 80 miles an hour...
but the manual says something to the effect of 'by manipulation the shifter thing in this manner, it can be operated much like a manual transmission'
i dunno, i haven't read it in awhile..but it wont damage it..unless you're a dumbass and keep bounching off the revlimiter, or down shift to first at like 30

what the hell do you need a shift light for? its an AUTOMATIC.. which means it changes gears by itself. if you wanted to change gears urself and have a shift light.. you should of bought a real 5 speed
yep..i know...i wish i had a manual...i bought my integra a year before i could drive, and definitely before i even cared about cars...only cause i got a sick deal from my cousin [who was like 40, and babied the car]
buuuut, now that im into modding my car, and driving for fun and eventually racing at the track and stuff....i wish i had five gears
especially when your on the highway for the first time checking your top speed, and you hit 105 at the top of third..and your like ****, i still have another gear to go....hit fourth..and slow down to a hundred...and then wait around for a minute to get back to 110, but that was with 3 people in the car...i hit 128 once by myself...with a stiff wind on my *** goin down a hill

I know for a fact that manual shifting with an auto tranny in a teg will **** it up. I started doing it in my car when i almost had all of my parts for manual swap. The more you shift the more it will start to slip. Manual swap is definately worth it.

I'd love to do that...but im having trouble finding information about it...
if you don't mind my asking, how much did all the parts cost you...and then how much to have it installed...rock on if you did it yourself...i wouldn't trust that to myself..

i've heard that in an auto whenever the tranny is shifting you should release it a bit instead of flooring it. Maybe thats what the tachs are for? that or just for show.

You are wrong. How do you know this "for a fact?"
If you shift an automatic "correctly" and not accidently bounce off the limiter all the time, it won't do anything bad to the transmission. First of all, why is it there then if it's going to ruin it?

i think its there to help drive thru steep grades/downgrades, etc. not to be slammed thru from a dead stop, or dropped down to 3rd then back to 4th cuz yer doing some highway racing. it will **** the tranny up in the long run. it happens all the time to people who try to drive the **** out of their auto hondas.
to honda, auto, and racing all in the same sentence.

if you manual shift with an auto, you shouldnt be jamming on the gas anyways... same goes for a manual gearbox... even heeland toe shifters lighten up on the gas a tad
