Default Setup question

Hey everyone, (this may have been covered before!!!)
I have a few questions, first is it useless to get an atermarket set of headers and never change the stock exhaust. Reason being is that I really dont like the way any of them sound or look ( I would rather have a stock look and sound). Also if the headers do not need the exhaust to be change, what type of power does it give you (short or long range) and what is the best type to get for a 00 gs-r. Thanks

Do you need an aftermarket exhaust to get aftermarket headers? Or can i just get dc 4 -1 headers and keep stock gsr exhaust? Would that be wothless.
