Default RHD

hey guys,

im one click away from purchasing the RHD front clip, now my question is what would be better to do- 1. a firewall swap and keep the structure of the car or 2. completely cut off the front clip just in front of the seat and just above the windsheild, keep in mind this is my daily driver and must be done is 2-5days of constant work(12-18 hrs a day), what would you guys do/suggest ??? and wouldnt the JDM ITR front clip bolt on easier? but the RHD question is of most importance

Thanks in advance

Doesn't sound like you should be doing this at all to be honest.

You would want to swap firewalls.

If you crash with the front clip welded in, the whole front clip will seperate from the car. I know many shop in hong kong chop two car and weld them together for resale. Guess what when they get accident from the side? The car seperate into two pieces. BTW, They called those car "lego car" in hong kong.

what are you plans/budget for this car? do you have any techincal knowlege about this sort of thing? are you planing on doing this yourself? this is a big job and involves alot of time and money. this is why most people dont do it, its usulay cheaper(and less ghetto) to get a rhd shell and swap your **** to that. or you can get a right conversion for like 4-5 k. your looking at the passwordjdm front clip right?

a little info and a search go along way
(its the big button in red in the top right corner)

well plans are in sing. now... budget we can croos it when we get to it(open funds)...it will be me my brother and one good friend-ive modified a 91 toyota pup-- brother bagged and 4in body drop'd s10-friend bagged and body droping his dakota

yea password RHD conversion with the front clip and all....
are you recomending that i should just cut my front clip off and re weld that one???(my orig. question)

looking at the fire wall- the engine must come out and the whole interrior must come out, and everything on the firewall wall, but everything else can stay in the bay...

i will be buying the shell.... so back to my orig. question 1. weld the new rhd shell to my current frame and cutting off the old shell?? or 2. do a firewall swap??

if you brace correctly you wont have any kind movement at all. measure 4 times, and cut once - our motto Lol

what he means is doing a conversion 99% of the time is gonna come out looking like poop and pulling one way all day. Now it will be alot faster and prolly cheaper just to buy a complete RHD shell. not just a front end. And if you plan on doing it in just a few days. Good luck not going to happen. With the amount of knowledge you have on the subject it may take you that much just to swap everything over let alone do the bodywork. and if you really want RHD think of all the stuff thats going to suck with it. Drive Thru's. Parking lot ticket thingys, Ect, ect. RHD if you gonna do it dont do a clip just buy a whole gutted car/shell. do it right.

THIS IS ALL JUST MY OPINION AND MY 2 CENTS

last i checked in florida your gonna get alot of attention from the 5-0 with a RHD car. And if they find out its not a legit RHD and you dont have paperwork from a body shop you could be in some trouble.

Just save yourself the headache and buy the real thing if you really want it. and it looks like you have an ls? Instead of looks why not get a motor thats pulls a little harder say a TYPE R swap or maybe even just a turbo kit?

just my 2 cents again

they pop up from time to time on modifiedcartrader.com as well. the R32 skyline isn't a bad buy either if you don't mind an older RHD car. the 2wd version normally sells for 10-12k in decent shape. you're going to spend half that chopping up your teg.

I don't know the laws in Florida, but getting a real JDM RHD car registered here in Cali sucks. At least getting a firewall conversion your car is still registered and you can get the firewall blue tagged to have the firewalls VIN match your cars. The real thing is always more pimp. Getting a RHD shell, the OP will have to swap everything over and it doesn't even seem like they even want to swap a motor. Good luck OP

no thats not what i meant.. a shell is a bare shell of a car or a car without an engine.

if you brace correctly and manage to do the welds right everything might not implode. but nothing will ever be like original. its virtually impossible to make it completley straight unless you got some laser **** witch id bet you dont.

i think what we're all tryin to say is that this is a very bad idea for anyone other than a very creditable shop and/or chip foose. you may think this is like a weekend thing but your talking about first taking everything out of you engine bay, striping most of you interior, cuting out your clip, welding on a new one and puting it all back together..this will take a full shop about 1-2 weeks for you id say 2-3 months. it honestly sounds like you dont really know what your talking about and this is definalty the kinda thing were if you hafft ask its to much. i hope it dosent sound like im trying to be a dick i just dont want to see you get in over your head and cut your car in two and then not no what to do..

but this is just me.........

and also it will cost you about the same amount for a rdh shell but not only will you have a legit jdm car not a usdm wannabe. you will also have no one laughing when a weld brakes the first time you drop the clutch

unless it automatic.......then you should just go kill yourself...

I just have to ask... What's your gain once you get your Teg RHD?

When people spend (in your case, going to spend) countless amounts of cash for the sole purpose of cosmetics... I just don't get it.
