Reinstalling AC - Help!
Well, I'm an idiot and I got ahead of myself and I pulled my ac out. I thought the manifold I was buying wasn't a/c compatable but I've decided to buy one that is. So I'm stuck with reinstalling everything.
First, I'm not competely positive where everything goes. If anyone has pictures or know's of an article that would help me that'd be a great help. I don't have a Helms manual in my posession so I'm out of luck with that right now.
Second, after installing the ac system. What are the steps to take inorder to get it working again. I read a post that mentioned you'd have to take it to a shop to revaccume the system. Also, I have an ac recharge kit, Do you guys recommend using that or paying a shop to recharge it. I really only want to go to a shop if worst comes to worst.
Any info would be a big help!
Thanks!

you will need to replace the reciever dryer because once its open it absorbs humidity and becomes saturated. I recommend new orings (they are cheap), you can remove them off the lines and bring them to the dealer or parts store to match them up. Also you will need to add some PAG oil before you charge it. There might be a sticker on your hood that says what oil to use, there definately is a sticker telling you how much freon to add. Now, taking it to a shop and having it "sucked down" and charged is the best way to do it. They will check for leaks before freon is added by making sure it holds vaccum for a while. But you can do it yourself. You need to remove the radiator, the battery and tray and your intake.Install lines with new orings (liberally coat the orings with some refrigerant oil so they go in smoothly). Start with the lines that go into firewall, out and down into the condensor. Then install Condensor and compressor. (Add some oil to the condensor, maybee 2 or 3 ounces and also 2 or 3 ounces in the compressor). DO NOT open the cap on the reciever dryer until you are ready to install it, make it the very last thing you put on, also add 1 or 2 ounces of oil to it in the hole where you cant see the desicant (the desicant looks like bunched up cotton). Once its all together you can add freon through the low side (of the 2 fittings its the one on the fatter line), once the can is hooked up turn on the car and the a/c, add as much as the sticker says, good luck.
Why do all you take out your AC anyway? If you dont want it get a car that never had it in the first place. It all weighs 30 lbs at the most. I think for every 100lbs you take off you gain like a tenth in the Q mile. That is pretty good tho. Unless your all hardcore racers. ???? But why take value out of your car.
Read my post and you'll see why.
Thanks blkb18 for the detailed description. I think I know where all the hoses go now. I'll probably go to autozone and pick up a recevier drier tomorrow.
