Rebuild or Replace?!?!?!?
ok i just got a 95 teggie 4dr and it came with a gsr swap obd1! my boy sold it to me cheap so im gonna make it my daily driver. he told me he spun a bearing and now im thinking A) get the motor completly rebuilt like internals and everything or B) just replace the motor with a used one. option A would take more time but option B would be quicker cuz everyone and their mama is selling a motor like mine (b18c1). also if anyone would like to personaly guide me threw this kinda stuff cuz well i never really did this. im the chicago area and would like to learn all about engine building!
what are your plans for the car. I see your wanting it as your daily driver but do you see yourself wanting to modify it or just do a stock rebuild?
Well how mechanically inclined are you? If your conformable then I would go for it with an helms manual b/c we all gotta start somewhere..but...from what it sounds like I think you would be more happy just to buy another one.
modify!!!! hehehehe!!! i want a sleeper thats why im glad its a 4 dr!!!! i have a 97 Acura RL with heavy 20" rims and i just want a quick car i can have fun with but still be reliable.

its a good engine, Rebuild it. Do some of it yourself at least the easier parts like valvetrain maybe. But I would say, rebuild it with new internals. The more you do yourself, the WAYYYY cheaper it will be.

Well if you can get your hands on a helm manual then id just go for it if you feel confident after you read the material. Just because its your first time doesn't mean its gonna end badly every one had to start somewhere..

thanks guys!! i really appreciate all the advice!! ok so now the question is what kind of internals are good for a daily driver. i want to drive it all over the city but still be able to take it to the track (legally) on the weekends!! somebody throw some websites or links!! any help would be great!!!!!
Do you want NA or boost..? Whats a HP that you would be happy with? Pick and then ask more questions after you know. If your interested in FI or NA theres plenty of stickys that will tell you info. Your not the first to build up a motor
250 to 300 hp allmotor from a daily driven c1 NA. aimming high.
About the original question. I would def. rebuild the motor. Especially if you have another ride that you can use while your rebuilding then if you really want to get your hands dirty then it's a great opportunity to do so.
The helms is great to have. Another good thing to have are friends with experience. If you know someone who knows what they are doing, even an old school domestic guy would be great. To help you with some of the more complicated areas.
H-T has lots of good info. on builds and dyno numbers and what works and what doesn't.
C-SPEEDRACING.COM has some good "How Tos" on their website, as well as a compression calculator. Those are some things you can use to help you decide what components would be a good fit for what your looking to attain.
250 to 300 hp NA is a tall order for a gsr motor; all while keeping it daily driveable.
Hope that helps. And which ever way you go, good luck

Hmm getting 300 NA on a gsr motor isnt gonna be easy and you better be ready to spend a pretty penny to get it there as well. But ya like other ppl said get a helms and go for it if you fell confident after reading it or get someone who knows and they can help you through it. Dont be scared of it man b/c we all had to start somewhere.
