Random fuel pump failures

So a while ago, I posted about an issue where leaving my ignition on overnight, caused a fuel pump failure. I felt like a real fool.

The obvious damage was to about an inch of wire under the seat at the plug for the fuel pump. I cut out the bad section of wire, plugged it back in and things were fine!

Now, it normally starts fine cold. I can typically drive a few miles with no issues. Literally a couple times, the pump "got weak" and the car would misfire, but only if I stopped or slowed down. It would keep moving if I BARELY touched the gas, but just lose power of I gave it even a little more gas. If I stopped, it would idle. THEN I could shut down the car, pound on the gas tank with my fist, and the pump would suddenly work fine again! (This literally worked 5 different times! )

A couple days ago I was driving in town, about 20 minutes, and I stopped in a parking lot. I was only there probably 20 seconds and the car shuddered and died. Turned the key, and no fuel pump. Thumped the gas tank, still nothing. Let it sit a couple hours, then it primed and started again! I'm afraid the fuel pump (new as well as the gas tank, and only a year old! ) is failing. I intend to put a voltmeter on my wire that was affected by the ignition being left on, and see if I have voltage drop. Hoping the wire is bad outside of the tank, but I suspect it could be bad inside the tank or maybe just loose. I have 2 relays and both seem functional.
