Default Question on Getting Rid of A/C

Would I be able to just take the belt off the A/C to adequately disable it? I never use it and would want to eliminate any drag effects it may be taking out on the engine. Would there be any negative effects of doing this?

I doubt you will notice any sort of gain from removing the belt. Most of the drag occurs when the compressor is on. I just removed the whole A/C system last night and even saving all that weight made almost no noticeable difference.

If the car's not fast, it'll be slow and hot inside. Not worth the reduction in resale value.

modding ur car is not worth jack **** in re sale value. Its always not gona be as much as you put into it, unless you get some GREAT deals. But removing AC is a waste unless u can get some good money off of it.

Spend some hot afternoons in the car and you'll soon regret taking the A/C out

Sometimes I feel like my eyeballs are frying as I sit in traffic in this 100+degree weather. Back to the original question, definitely not worth the 1-2 hp it frees up...but that would be w/ whole system removal not just removing the belt.

The other day it was 108F in Albuquerque, and the fuse to my condenser fan blew. It sucked. Do yourself a favor, give up the 1-2hp and keep the AC.

It depepnds on where you live, whats your setup is. The up side is yes the a/c is fairly heavy and you will notice a difference, but you have to ask yourself is it really worth it. You say you dont use it, so hey i guess it wont hurt, but make sure and keep all your stock parts so when it comes time to sell the car you can re-install it. Too much trouble in my opinion if you arent making alot of power and really trying to get the extra edge.

Last summer i removed complete a/c system on my turbo setup and let me tell you.. Texas, leather, no tint, and no a/c sucks ***. Theres pro's and cons do both sides just decide whats best for you and your car.

As stated before, wether or not its worth it is going to be different from situation to situation. He didn't ask if he should or not.

The belt itself probably has very little drag, I doubt it would make more than a 1hp increase. All the equipment probably weighs close to 50lbs though, which is a substantial drop in weight.

I don't feel its worth taking out unless you live in a cool climate. Since it gets to about 110 degrees here, its definately not an option for me. The main gains from getting rid of A/C is weight. A/C has minimal drag on the motor when the compressor is off. You can remove the belt, but you're probably not going to see any gains.

Another big benefit is more room in your engine bay... You can run larger turbos, equal length manifolds, better fans, etc... I am removing mine to free up space, losing some pounds and gaining a hp or two was just a bonus. My bay is cluttered as **** right now and it will only get worse as I keep adding stuff, and there is no way I would give up PS so AC got the boot
