Default Question about theft

Well, there's a recent thread here about some poor fellow getting his car broken into. I have just purchased a 98 GSR and i'm a bit worried about it getting broken into/stolen.

The car does come with the standard oem cd player and there's nothing too flashy inside, but i was also worried about theft of the vehicle itself.

It has the engine immobilizer(i believe. he had it installed and it comes standard on the 99's+?)

Anyways, i'm thinking that plus the Autolock pro(fits around the clutch forcing you to cut through steel or the clutch) should be enough to deter most folks.

Is that enough? I mean i guess nothing is ever enough besides a solid steel cage surrounded by wolves, but has anyone used an autolock pro and had their car stolen? It seems fairly thief proof. And that plus the alarm...

thanks for your time,

-J

layers of security is the key. the more the better.
also, garage your car if possible.

reroute your hood cable too.

If you're talking about the chipped ignition key, I think it's only on the 00 and 01s.

I would definately get a good alarm w/ good installation for a GSR.

You really need an alarm and an autolock, dealing with insurance after your ride gets stolen is NO fun. I got a ford escort for 7 weeks to replace my Blue civic si, it was mad ghey!

Autolock, fuel cutoff switch, and a paging alarm. I've mentioned in a couple of other posts that I just had one of these installed, and the effective range is 1/3 mile. It is definitely worth the money, because no matter where you are at, you can have some kind of notice if someone's messing with your car. That way, you can take care of it before they get anywhere...

Grats on on your new purchase. I too live in San Francisco and can understand the threat of thieves. From my experince, there is no security measure you can take that will stop your car from being 100% theft proof. If they really want it, they will eventually get it. However with that said what you can do, is to take the advice of the members here about layering your security. Put as much defense as you can on the car to slow their progress. Also never leave it defenseless, not even for a minute, like going to buy a jug of milk. I have heard so much horror stories about coming out 15 minutes later and their car is gone.
As many other members here can tell you the immoblizer and the autolock will not be enough to stop them. You are going to need at least two to three more things to somewhat deter them.

I really want that james bond anti-theft system... "If I can't have it...noone can" *KABOOOOOM!!!*

Seriously though, install a fuel cutoff switch.
