Default Question about LS VTEC

If you just were to do a basic LS VTEC without building the bottom...

would it still go KABOOM if you keep it under LS redline?

to answer your question, no, it shouldnt go kaboom if you keep it at ls redline, but if youre doing that, youre negating the point of doing an LSvtec in the first place.

Do it right the first time and save yourself some headaches.

Shortcuts can always be done, if you know what your doing, the only think most of the time u sacrfice is reliabilty.
Buh yes u can build a lsvtec on a stockm bottom end and be reliable depnding on how hard you drive.

If you keep the revs under 7200, it wouldn't be any less reliable than a stock LS in theory.

If you constantly rev a stock B18A/B or B20B/Z bottom end above 7200, you're going to stretch the rod bolts and spin rod bearings. It usually happens within 15,000-25,000 miles.

Installing a VTEC head on an LS bottom end and never revving it above 7200 is pointless. You don't need VTEC to do that; the LS engine already does it easily and reliably with no additional parts or work.

Thus, it only makes sense to either build the LS-VTEC right and upgrade the connecting rod bolts from the get go, or just leave the complete LS engine stock.

Or you could just do it the half-assed way and replace your crank, rods, and bearings every 20,000 miles. Your choice.

I read all those threads from searching. Everyone said build it right from the start or else it will blow.

No one said anything about the revs.

I'm just asking because my cousin is doing the the LSVTEC without building the bottom-end. I tried to tell him but he wouldn't believe me.

As for me I'm just saving up for a GSR.

When he spins a rod bearing in 20,000 miles, you get to say "I told you so."

Unless he never revs it above 7200 RPM, in which case you can call him an idiot.

lol he doesn't do forums.

I am getting a B20B vtec GSR soon.
The bottom end isn't built. It's stock.

Should I buy it anyways and build the bottom later?
