a question about compression
k...here we go...i have a b18a1 engine and i did a compression test on it and hers the number..180,160,150,170.....after finding out that my comp. was bad i did a oil change and added oil treatment (stp)....then about 2 wks later i added stop smoke(stp)...because the engine was smokin real bad. But, heres the real question...today i did another comp test and i got these nums.#1 180, #2 170,#3 175,#4 173...which those are good nums for my engine...but i was wondering if all the stuff that i added i.e(oil treatmnt and stop smoke) caused those numbers to go up ????i think thats what it is but im not sure...im just hopping that i did the comp test wrong the first time
if it was burning smoke then stopped smoking(i dont know if it did), then the stuff probably did its job. It's just a short term fix. youll know for sure if it starts smoking again.
Doing it at different engine-temperatures could explain some of the difference between the 2 tests. Maybe a better question is what will the compression test look like after you change your oil next time, after that stuff is drained out. That'll say whether it did any real good.
Along with engine temperature, a few other things that matter...
Throttle position (you want it wide open).
RPM cranking the starter (remove all 4 plugs it'll spin faster).
Different gauges have different internal volumes & different check-valve positions.
Pull the ECU fuse? (you don't want fuel being injected during the test)
