Default question about ABS

on the part of the dash panel that comes off..the entire panel underneath the steering wheel...i took that off the other day to install some gauges and run the wires...my question is there is a black box that is attached the inside of the panel (the side you cant see) and it says ABS on it...there is a wire harness that plugs into it..what exactly does that black box do? for some reason the harness was unplugged from the box so i plugged it back in when i reinstalled the dash piece...just wondering what exactly the black box does that relates to the ABS

Sounds like you found the maintenance reset switch button. Is there a square button on it somewhere? If that's the case, the ABS on it is for the material it's made of (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) rather than the ABS system on the car.

Be careful though, if you push it too often the car will run rich and you'll start backfiring!! No, not really.

Actually, a lot of the parts that are ABS (a black plastic that's easy to mold and reasonbly sturdy) will have ABS on them. You'll see that on a bunch of different plastic parts throughout the car.
