Which is less streesful on your car:
just down shifting, slamming it in gear and mashing the throttle!
or
putting it in a lower gear, let the clutch out slowly, let the RPMs even out at about 5000, and then mash the throttle.

i'm not to sure on how to explane but i beleve you have to rev-match, basicly u have to drop a gear rev it up a little a release the clutch...
someone on this board will explane to you a lot better then i could.....

how about.....
clutch in
blip throttle to rev match
drop into gear + clutch out
mash on gas
thats the best way.

dont even bother downshifting unless youre racing on a roadcoarse. Just put it in neutral and hit the brakes. less wear and tear! But if u must, like RiceHornet said, blip throttle and rev match it.
doesn't work too well, if you are going around a corner. I usually drop it into second, and don't leave it in 4th.
this is what I do:
push in clutch.
downshift to desired gear.
think about how many revs you would be spinning in the desired gear at your current mph.
raise rpm to match the rpm you just thought about.
let out clutch slowly, keeping the revs where they would be at the current mph in the destination gear.
I only downshift when exiting freeways and turning corners, but I don't do the racy style downshift, i take my time.

i only downshift when needed like pulling out of a turn (ramps, and other various things similiar) or when i decide to "lay da smack down yo"

well im not talking about downshifting to slow down.. Im talking about when you are driving, and someone pulls up next to u trying to get u to race and u either
throw it in the lower gear and go, or u put it in the lower gear and keep revs high, and then wait for the race.. when the other person gets on it, u get on it and u r already in the perfect powerband..

rev match is the way. all in one motion. clutch in,then blip throttle while downshifting and clutch out.
should take 1 second. shouldnt feel a thing but the engine screaming.

rev matching definitely.....easier on your synchros and engine mount too..
the downshift is a lot smoother than just downshifting, less jerking...
I dunno about LS tranny, I usually blip the throttle about 1000 to 1500 RPM, smoother engagement

Double clutch!
Clutch in
Shift to neutral
Clutch out
rev to desired rpm
clutch in
shift to gear
clutch out.
If you practice you can do this in about 1 sec.

Ok well here it is. I have only been driving stick for about 6 months and I can double clutch better then anyone I know. As soon as I could shift pretty well, I read on H-T how to double clutch(the way Dustin and Ricehornet said) and started to practice. At first I sucked and my rpms were all off. I thought there might be some formula for it to know how many rpm's to rev to. But its all about feel. I drove around for about a week double clutching on every down shift
And now it has become second nature. I have people get in my car that drive stick and say, "teach me that" I personaly find it to be smother and qwicker. All it takes is practice. You just get the feel for it then its as natural as shifting and you don't even think about it.Good luck

so when u double clutch, do u usually wanna rev the rpms high, or wha? an are u only double clutching when yur in a higher gear an rpms are lower or higher, or does it not matter? oh yea an has anyone heard of power shifting?

Yeah, the technique you described is faster, but it's harder to do when downshifting two gears.
I only do the technique you described when heel-toe downshifting (wherein you're downshifting one gear at a time)

After spending some time practicing, and learning yoga exerices from the monks and witchdoctors of the far east i can heel toe on stock pedals, it's really isnt that hard after you bend some joints here and there.
However, i notice in real life, a good number of people mix up heel-toeing and double clutching....
What dustin described is double clutching.
what i described is rev matching
heel toeing is revmatching when your slowing down, because your on the brake while your revmatching...
when you double clutch, you revmatch....when you heel toe you revmatch....you can also heel-toe while double clutching, which also means your revmatching, so all three.

i heard you don't even need to let the clutch out and just blip the throttle while holding in the clutch.... shouldn't that be a tad faster?

About the whole time thing. Today when I was driving I paid attention to how long it took me to duble clutch. I would guess somewhere around 1 second maybe 2. So once you get it its really fast and easy
Now i just have to figure out to heel-toe. I try but my fu*king feet don't listen and its just a mess

Let me make the double clutching thing sound a little more simple.. This is what I usually do:
First, I try to get the car into a 'no load' situation ... aka cruising. Then I just pull the car out of gear into neutral with no clutch.
Then, I rev the car to the destination RPM in the gear I am shifting to. Do not let off the gas, just hold the RPMs steady.
Finally, in one smooth motion, put the clutch in and shift to the destination gear. Quickly let the clutch out. Do NOT let off the gas at any time.
If you do this properly, the transition will be entirely smooth. This works 100% perfect and is actually fun.

ok, today i was practicing double clutching and i went into 2nd at 40, I brought the RPMs up higher then i needed to and dropped the clutch pretty fast.. I think I heard my tires chirp.. did i imagine this or is this possible at 40mph roll.. my tires do kinda suck and my turbo is not even on yet..
you can chirp the tires downshifting or upshifting into second it doesn't matter.
mine always chirp upshifting into second if I am racing, so I assume that if I downshifted the same way, I would chirp the tires.
