problems with my teg , please help !
ok i got this loud as knocking , i dunno if it comes from the engine or something rattling, but my bet its from the engine
the noise gets louder as the rev goes higher, but the car drives fine
could it be bearings problem ?? valve clearance ?? engine has done 180,000km
and oh the compression is fine 240 +/- 10psi
secondly , i just dented the oil pan , i just wanna know what would happen if u keep driving with a dented oil pan , i mean its dented pretty bad .
x10 to me
thanks for reading this

i wouldn't be revving the car much if you have a big dent in the pan. i had a big dent, and i just bought some gasket maker, and an oil pan gasket, and took the pan off. bang out the pan w/ a mallet, take the old gasket off, put gasket maker on the pan, put gasket on, put it on car, spend at least 1 hour under the car with a torque wrench doing all the bolts center to outside like a head gasket, only do it 1 ft-lb. at a time. as for the sound, you'll have to describe it better. but take care of that pan ASAP!
no, but it could have hit the pickup, which is attatched to the windage tray. only way to know for sure is to take a look. but here are some qu's:
1) does it run normally, except for the sound?
2) how fast is the sound, and does it change with engine speed, vehicle speed, turning the wheels at stop or at speed, etc.?
3) please try to tell where it's coming from (left or right, front or back of engine bay, middle or bottom of engine bay, etc.)

yes, it runs normal
yes, the knocking sound goes faster as the rev increases
it sounds like its coming from the head , thats why i asked could it be valve clearance problem ??
and the car was already making that knocking sound even before i dented the oil pan
note: i bought the car as is

pull the valve cover and put a straight-edge against all your valve springs, first left or right side, then front or back of each. maybe you have a bent valve, or a missing keeper or something. i doubt it could be a valve clearance problem unless it was WAY out of spec, but i do mine fairly often to keep them perfect. i think it takes me about 30 minutes to do mine.
I have the same problem... mine is coming from right side of the engine, but is not too loud until you get to about 3k to 5K rpm... it usually happens in 3rd gear.. i have no idea wat it is... and then my engine seems to be consuming oil too, it blows out white smoke when i really get on it... please give your opinion
well rider, there's a million things it could be. but is it pure white smoke, or does it have a bluish hue to it? get a friend to hit the gas pedal while you watch the tailpipe. white smoke means you are burning water, which probably means you have a leak in the head gasket, or possibly on the #4 cylinder end of the intake manifold gasket or something. bluish means you're burning oil, which usually comes from either worn out piston rings or worn out valve seals. if the car burns oil only on startup, it's very likely the valve seals. if it burns oil all the time, it could be either or a comination.
i have a qustion, dont have the problem but i'm curiose, you mentioned the #4 cylinder of the intake mnifold. Is that the one that usually goes out first? Or did I miss something in the rest of the thread?
i've never seen that as a problem, but i wouldn't rule it out if i was really stumped. but you should be able to tell by reading your plugs if that is the case, anyways. intake manifold gaskets don't really "go," in my experience. they seem to last pretty much forever, unless maybe you smack the intake manifold with a sledgehammer, in which case the gasket is probably not your biggest problem. you just can't reuse them.
