Problem with Intermediate Shaft
I have a 99 Gsr Engine with a 96 Gsr transmission for what it matters. I have come across a problem I have never had in the many, many motor swaps I have done. I went to put my intermediate shaft in the other day and it went in the transmission fine, so then I tried to bolt it up and it appeared to be in a bind and the bolt hole were hard to line up. Well I finally got it lined up, bolted it down and checked to make sure it would spin freely. I notice it would only spin about 3/4 of the way freely and then bind up, even in neutral. Then I checked where it goes into the transmission and the metal seal on the intermediate shaft was not flush on about 1/4 of the area where it enters the transmission. Oil was leaking from this seal. Now I know the metal seal is only the cover and there is a rubber seal in the tranny, I am just stumped on this problem. Most intermediate shafts go right in and bolt up with no effort. Could I have a bent intermediate shaft? Or maybe the shaft didn't go into the tranny completely? I am lost. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Okay I didn't know there was a difference. This could possibly be the problem. Do you happen to know what the differences may be, like it is visible? Thanks.
Yeah I just got on AcuraAutomotivePart.org and there is a difference in part number between the auto and manual intermediate shaft. Normally the part # difference means there is a difference in the part (duh). I am going to get a for sure manual intermediate shaft Monday and do a little comparing. At this point, it really is the only thing that seems logical. Thanks for the help guys.
Oh and continue posting if anyone else has any recommendations on this situation or know the difference in the auto and manual intermediate shafts. Thanks.
