Power antenna to solid?
Ok so I just got the car. Today.. and the antenna's busted. Ive got the motor out, took off that funky ring with a pair of snap ring pliers. Now.. I ge tthe motor out and find out I'll either need a whole base due to the antenna's setup, or spend the money to replace the mast on the power antenna. Not something I want to do. Power antennas break, bend etc. Rather have a solid. Any advice part #'s etc you guys know of from auto zone, napa, western auto etc?
I got a hidden one from ebay. BUT i getting my car painted and they are filling that whole. I still got my OEM came from a 2001 integra pm if u want it.
Here is the one i got. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

Well I went down to auto zone. Found one that was close to what I needed. The antenna connected with a 3/4" nut just like the original (The weird retaining nut that I took off with snap ring pliers) My only gripe.. no water drain hose, but its running great now and its solid, but I wish it was black instead of chrome. Ah well.. I'll break out the duracoat on it someday.
44-GM95 from Metra is the part #. Apparently its for a sunfire/cavalier. The rubber off the old antenna can be used or the new one is close enough to provide a good seal. I checked with a bottle of water after instal. But I wont know for certain till I drive it out in the rain. Its rather straight forward and took about an hour to do tops. Thought the piece they give is almost a perfect match.. I didnt like the smaller diameter of the piece they gave. And using the stock one would leave the antenna too low to come through the rubber boot. The stock piece jsut needs shortened. Theres a ring on the inside that fits great... so chop it off under that so you get that in there for less wobble, and dremel out for the "ears" on the new antennat so it dosent twist down the road etc.. and you're good to go. Looks easier than the shark install by far.
Remove trim
Unplug old components
Take out power antenna assembly
Dremel Upper sleve (The piece that actuall contacts with the underside of the body.)
Reinstall

whatever works.
My power antenna was broken too, so i took out the motor and other bits.
I did notice there was a drain tube, and when i took the motor out, i left a gaping hole in the drain tube area.
I got out a soldering iron and melted the plastic, or maybe it was acrylic.. to fill the hole.
No leaks in my antenna area, and no dead weight from an antenna motor, and no irritating sound every time i turn on my radio / shut off my car... good deal ;]

by the way, regardless of the antenna, it's almost certain to leak.
so if you're going to use a custom mast.. I advise you to either drill out a drain hole, or something else.
Soldering irons are killer for doing plastic work. I also plugged up my rear water jet motor with a soldering iron, so that i could disable it permanently - it had caused a leak around my quarter panel from the last owner that has formed a crapload of rust..

Yeah.. so far the trim panels are off till it runs int he rain to watch for leaks. I pushed an electric nut into the drain tube to plug it up for now. I'll see how it goes once it rains. Shouldnt have to wait too long here in Ohio. Id say "I'll take a pic of it and post it." But im terrible with them. As in.. I dont feel inclined enough to do so

you plugged up the drain tube? that's not useful.
you gotta get that new antenna a drain tube, period.. or it will rust out in a matter of years, and probably start leaking during the process.

just plug the hole and use a hidden antenna that you get from radioshack or circuitcity. homedepot sells platic plugs in different sizes. it looks way better than an antenna sticking up
