Icon6 possible overheating

lately the gsr has been running well mufflerless and all. however when driving to school the temp gauge is fine but as soon as i go to the streets. and get stopped at lights, the temp shoots up very high, but as soon as i continue driving it goes away. i have replaced the fan switch as well as the thermostat and it helped. unfortunately today it started doing the same thing. do i have a defective thermostat that i should go exchange or is there something more to this..

Don't do this ^.

Does the needle slowly climb up when stopped, then procceeds to cold when you are moving? If so, the thermostat is stuck open and needs replacing. The thermostat should stay around midway or a tad less on your gauge. ( Simply change the water/solution ratio). But I would check the fans and make sure they are running.. ( drive around for 5-10 minutes and park the car and check to see if the fans start up)

Also I would run a muffler. There is no benefit of not running it.

Acura98guy- it does exactly as you stated. so then im assuming i need to replace the thermostat again since i purchased a new one last week and put it in, meaning its defective. the fans work and a new muffler has been ordered.

Well first I would solve the thermostat and fan issue. But this is what I would do.. run the car for a good 20-30 minutes on a hotter then normal day. Let the car sit.. see if the fans turn on. Most of the time they will only turn on if the temperature starts nearing the half way mark and start to climb. Since driving provided cool air.

Sorry I have been away for a few days.

no worries man. my friend said it may be a blown head gasket. he checked it with a special liquid and dual chamber that he got from his work at honda. we checked it 3 times and it showed that it was a blown head gasket. also he mentioned a possible bad water pump. the car has 73k original miles so im assuming it may be time for all that. do you know around how much it is to do the gasket. i know its not a difficult job just very laborious , nothing id do myself but id like to get prices so i dont get ripped off either. let me know

I would estimate around a couple hundred to up to a grand (I've known some people who paid a grand to get their head gasket done) if you were to do it at the shop. But very very cheap if you do it on your own.
