piston ring problem
heres the deal i had a respectable tuner put together my bottom end last year .. installed the motor in my car then had issues with the motor it would burn oil at idle constantly and it would leave clouds of smoke if i got on it.. so i took apart the motor it not to smart wen it comes to bottom end work but i know for a fact is was the rings , i have eagle rods and stardard 81mm cp pistons , and the pistons rings for all i know were ebay (i had him order me some) ..so wen i ripped apart my head there was alot of play (back and fourth) in the pistons , i had the motor honed and decked , wat could have been the problem here ? i dont think the kid used and tools as in a ring compressor or feeler guage for specs .. could the machine shop have bored over my motor by accident ?
With the piston in the cyl what is the gap between piston and cyl wall.
Boring is a completely diff process than honing somewhat. Different heads. I doubt a machine shop make that mistake. The pistons may be undersized, piston rings installed improperly or just the break in of the piston rings went bad.
A few rare cases I have seen at my buddys machine shop is the cyl hone went so bad and got ****ed up The cross etching wasnt performed properly it didnt allot the new piston rings to seat properly causing oil consumption but ive only heard that on v6 and v8.
W/o measurements its hard to give a deff answer just give you ideas of where to look.

Too big ring gap ... worn cyl walls so not in specs, prob should have had bored and went a size up in pistons. With alot of miles a motor the walls wear down slightly and the slightest amount will make a difference. Measure piston to wall clearance as stated above and I'd take a piston out of block and check ring gap too.
All ring gaps lined up... if the guy lined up the oil ring gaps and compression ring gaps
just a couple things that could be the prob

cylinders out of round, not enough pressure on the oil rings, piston to wall too loose. also, it's normal for the piston to rock in the bore since this is what happens every time it comes up top. piston to wall is measured at the skirt, not the top of the piston just in-case anyone isn't aware.
