Default Over Heating

OK recently my temp gauge would be really low at almost below 30%. At first i thought it could be from the cold. At the same time this was happening i hear like a little belt noise, but not from the timing belt. But now when i turn on my car, i wont get heat for a while and when i do get heat the car's temp will shoot way high sometimes all the way, and then it will go back down to normal and then shoot up again. When i noticed this yesterday the rad fluid was low so i added some. Today i saw some rad fluid near the transmission. I dont know how that happened. Could any one give me some help with this? I've searched and it seems like it could be either thermostat, blown head gasket, or clogged radiator?
